The Originals Season 2 Episode 14 Review: “I Love You, Goodbye”

The Originals

The Originals packed a wedding, homecoming, death and resurrection into one episode last night, and it wasn’t even a season finale!

Klaus was weirdly supportive of Hayley’s decision to go through with her wedding to Jackson even sooner than expected.  She’s spent enough time around Klaus that she should have recognized his devious smirks when he was toasting to her and Jackson at the reception.  Eventually the newlyweds will catch on to Klaus’ suspicious behavior because something tells me he’s only just getting started with his mind games.  Now that he’s even invited Jackson and his bride to live in the compound, Klaus will have fun trying to frame an “accidental” death.

What I don’t understand is why Elijah is moving out of the compound now.  Besides the fact that it’s painfully obvious that he’s still in love with Hayley, he’s also fully aware of his brother’s intentions towards Hayley’s new husband.  It seems so unlike Elijah to be defending Jackson to Klaus one minute and then all of a sudden announcing to Hayley that he’s moving out.  Not exactly the smartest decision to distance yourself from your homicidal brother.  What’s to stop Klaus from poisoning Jackson the first time he gets jealous of this other man in his daughter’s life?

Actually, maybe Hope would have something to prove if and when Klaus tries to eliminate her stepfather.  We saw last week that she possesses some kind of powers to be able to stop a moving car and heal cuts on her body just like her supernatural parents.  Freya warned Finn that the baby’s powers will serve as a lighthouse, drawing Dahlia right to her and anyone that stands in her way.  By the way, the casting department found the cutest baby (or twin babies) to play Hope!  She’s already so expressive like a true actor.  Her little squeals were perfectly timed and even if they were added in post, they were adorable all the same.

Here’s an idea: how about Freya and Finn side with Klaus and the rest of their family?  As of now Freya’s loyalty seems to skew towards Finn but she can’t forget that she saw something better in Rebekah when she saved her from the asylum.  Even if the Mikaelson siblings only agree on this one task to protect Hope at all costs, it would be so worth it.

Sadly, though, we have lost one sibling already.  Kol’s hex was killing him, and Rebekah or Davina couldn’t do anything to help.  I know with vampire magic that when a vampire dies, any compulsion they’ve done is undone.  I was hopeful that was applicable to witches, too, since Finn technically died in the house explosion, thanks to Elijah.  (Naturally, he couldn’t stay dead for long because where would be the fun in that.)  I’m so heartbroken over Kol’s death though.  Kol/Kaleb’s chemistry with Davina was so adorable.  Yeah, Rebekah swore she would consecrate his remains and not stop trying to bring him back since he died a witch, but would he be in the same body?  I cannot imagine recasting this character a third time after striking gold this time around.  Quit playing games with our hearts and bring Sharman back ASAP!

Notable quotables:

-”I want you to know that I didn’t marry you for all those people.  I married you for me.” – Hayley being honest with herself and Jackson

-”Always and forever is not just something you weasel out of, brother.” – Klaus refusing to let Kol die alone

-”You’re wearing Rebekah’s dress, getting married in Klaus’ house.  I figured you should have one thing that’s just yours.” – Jackson proving he is too good of a person for this world. I’m sorry but I’m willing to sacrifice him in exchange for Daniel Sharman to return as Kol!
