It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for… the season finale of Nashville! With so many highs and lows, numerous shockers and romances to root for, season one didn’t disappoint. Enough talking, let’s get to the juice!
As Juliette is trying to deal with losing her mother, Rayna tells her girls that she is dating Deacon and Gunnar tries to win Scarlett back. Oh, and that is just in the first two minutes.
After Gunnar meets with his producer and comes clean about the song actually being Jason’s he heads to his house to try to make things right with Scarlett. Scarlett however has other plans and leaves Gunnar looking like a poor puppy on the steps as she heads to a friends gig. Her friend? Avery–uh-oh!
In a switch to the CMAs, Rayna arrives alone after Deacon stands her up. He arrives just in time to play guitar for Rayna and Brad Paisley… so cool. Meanwhile Juliette has a break down in her dressing room and finally realizes that her mother’s death means a lot more to her then she thought. She leaves the award show and goes to the funeral home to sit next her to mother and cries. So sad.
Rayna goes to her dressing room after the performance and Deacon storms in after her. He confronts her about being Maddie’s father! Side note: Maddie came to Deacon’s place and told him that she thought he was her real father and that is why he was late to the award show. Rayna doesn’t know what to say but she finally admits that Maddie is his daughter and as she is trying to apologize for lying to him for so long he leaves hurt and very angry.
In a panic, Rayna leaves the show and calls Teddy and tells him that Maddie knows. They meet at the house and try to talk to Maddie. She is outraged and hurt so she tells Teddy she wants to live with him. Teddy promises Rayna that he wont let her lose Maddie–aw!
In another part of town Gunnar figures out that Scarlett went to see Avery play and finds her. He walks in as Avery calls Scarlett on stage and they sing a duet together. Poor Gunnar!
The next day Juliette discovers that she won her CMA category but doesn’t really care anymore. She then goes to her mother’s funeral and Rayna is there for support and they have a heart-to-heart. Both of them have now lost their mothers–a sad bonding moment. As the funeral is happening Deacon is nowhere to be found but Avery shows up to support Juliette. Very interesting.
Deacon wakes up that morning in a bar after having his first, second and many more drinks after 13 years of being sober. Gunnar shows up at his doorstep to ask for advice about Scarlett but instead finds him throwing up on the porch. Gunnar calls Scarlett and tells her to call Coleman… he is off the wagon.
Coleman arrives and breaks down the door. Deacon is a mess, he is drunk and is destroying his home and even attacks Coleman. Scarlett has to leave because she cannot see her uncle in that state. Coleman refuses to leave his side. What a good friend!
Later that night Deacon wakes up and apologizes to Cole and tells him that after he showers he will meet him at the AA meeting. Coleman agrees and leaves him alone… a bad idea on his part.
At Juliette’s place, she is still grieving when she receives a letter in the mail from her mother confessing that she killed herself to save and protect Juliette. Juliette is beyond touched and can’t stop crying. She then calls Deacon as he is getting out of the shower and they make up. She asks Deacon to come to the Bluebird that night for a memorial and he agrees. He hangs up the phone takes Advil and chases it down with alcohol–yikes!
In political news, Teddy is being investigated again about the Cumberland deal by the feds. He tells his lawyer everything and then goes to Peggy to warn her and ask her not to say anything. On his way to see her the feds stop by Tandy and Lamar’s offices and ask to speak to Tandy. Lucky for them she has no allegiance to her father anymore because she just quit!
But, back to Teddy! He meets with Peggy and she tells him she already spoke to the feds but she told them nothing. The reason why she didn’t take the deal and save herself? She’s pregnant!
In a switch to the Bluebird, Juliette dedicates her song to her mother and has Avery playing guitar. The song is absolutely beautiful and sad all at one time. Rayna watches in the audience after making up with her own daughter earlier that evening. Deacon shows up but quickly leaves when he sees Rayna.
In a quick switch, Gunnar and Scarlett are making up on the swing by their house and things are looking good. All of a sudden Gunnar gets down on one knee and asks her to marry him! So exciting.
Unfortunately things aren’t looking as good for Rayna and Deacon who are screaming at each other as Rayna drives him home (she wouldn’t let him drive drunk). She reaches over to grab the bottle of whisky from him and almost hits a car. She swerves but can’t control the car…they flip and crash!
With one relationship heading towards a happily-ever-after and one fighting for survival and now their own lives, season two is going to be a really intense season! Sadly, we have to wait until the fall to figure out what happens next. What do you think will happen when we return to Nashville?
