From Season 5: Lingering Threads For an Intense Final Outing

It’s a wrap for From season 4, but the lingering threads are hard to ignore. Although it got off to a disappointing start, the MGM+ horror series ended with the most explosive cliffhanger in the show’s history, delivering shocking twists, heart-wrenching character deaths, and a chilling reality for the mystery town’s residents. Season 4 answered a few lingering questions, but didn’t resolve several threads.

As such, anticipation for From season 5 is at an all-time high. As the fifth and final season, the upcoming installment must unravel longstanding mysteries about the nightmarish town and its trapped residents. Whether it’s the true identity of the Man in Yellow (Douglas E. Hughes), the origin story of the mysterious town, or the fate of the residents after losing the talismans and pulling down the Bottle Tree, several lingering threads could shape the final outing.

1. The Bottle Tree is Gone, and There May Be More Consequences

From Season 4

The Bottle Tree has been one of the show’s biggest mysteries since the first season and is considered an important fixture in the town. As such, the plan to pull down the tree was met with strong resistance, especially from the mysterious Boy in White (Vox Smith) and Victor (Scott McCord). However, Boyd (Harold Perrineau) and his team didn’t listen. Shortly after the tree falls, earthquakes and lightning shake the town to the core, triggering a total eclipse of the sun and allowing the creatures to appear early. By the end of From season 4, The Bottle Tree is still down, and nobody knows if there will be more consequences, especially at night.

2. No Talisman to Protect The Town Residents, and They are Unaware

Smiley in From season 4 finale

In the moments leading up to the chilling ending of season 4 episode 10, the Man in Yellow (disguised as Sophia) rounded up all the talismans in town while Boyd and the others were trying to find a way home. The last scene of the season finale sees Sophia (Julia Doyle) dump the talismans into the Faraway Tree, stripping the townspeople of their last line of defense. The talismans protected them from the nocturnal creatures, so the story is about to take a brutal turn without them. From Season 5 will unpack the residents’ fate as nightfall looms.

3. Fatima’s Transformation: Villain or Friend?

Fatima monster transformation

Since the season 3 finale, when she gave birth to the slain monster (Smiley), Fatima’s life has not been the same. She gradually developed supernatural abilities and physical changes. She could feel the monsters from far and control Smiley’s actions from a distance as well. In the season 4 finale, she transforms into a creature, but retains her pure intentions. Fatima chose to transform to help Boyd and the others escape. However, it’s unclear if she will continue to root for them after becoming one of the monsters.

4. How Will the Children’s Bones Solve the Town’s Mystery?

The role the children’s bones play in the residents’ escape plan remains a mystery that needs to be resolved in the final season of From. Boyd set out with a team to retrieve the bones, but they had no idea what to do with them. However, Jade (David Alpay) is convinced that the bones are worth sacrificing his life for and that they will light a path to the real world and help them escape the nightmarish town.

5. What’s the Town’s Origin Story?

Perhaps this question will finally get the long-awaited answer. Who built the mysterious town, and to what purpose? The finale should also trace the monsters’ origin story and their true nature, especially why they can only come out at night. So far, the reason they target trapped residents of the town remains mostly unexplained. As such, it’s a thread worth exploring in the final season. Another disturbing mystery is the origin of ghostly children and why they are asking for help. Victor knows the town more than anybody else, but his memory keeps failing him.

6. Relationship Between Jade and Tabitha

Jade and Tabitha in From

Clearly, Jade and Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) have a shared destiny linked to the town, and it keeps unfolding. Their visions and experiences suggest they have been trapped in the mysterious town more than once. Tabitha was revealed to be Victor’s mother in her former life as Miranda (Sarah Booth). Together, Tabitha and Jade hold the key that unlocks the town’s mystery, but figuring it out has been hard. The final season of From should explore their connection further, revealing why and how they were chosen.

7. The Boy in White vs The Man in Yellow (Sophia): What Happens Next?

From Season 4 finale

At the end of From Season 4 finale, the mysterious Boy in White and the sinister Man in Yellow look ready for a showdown. The boy tells Sophia that her plans will fail, but she seems confident in her ominous plot, which begins by removing the talismans. These two enigmatic figures have played opposing roles in the series and will likely shape the fate of the trapped townspeople in the grand finale.
