As the daughter of Rosa Doherty (Wright) and Tom Doherty, who worked in banking and owned a beauty parlor respectively, Shannen was encouraged to pursue her passions from a young age. She demonstrated exceptional academic prowess, earning top grades while also involving herself in school performances and extracurricular activities. She made her professional acting debut in 1981 in 2 episodes of Father Murphy. She was only 10 years old at the time. However, she caught then attention of Michael Landon, who then decided to cast her in Little House on the Prairie. Doherty starred as Jenny Wilder for 18 episodes between 1982 and 1983, a role that propelled her to fame, leading to many more roles.

RIP Shannen Doherty.” Rose McGowan, who replaced Doherty on Charmed also took to her X page to honor her, writing: “We laughed at dark forces who wanted us to hate each other, instead we chose love and respect.” Many former co-stars of Doherty and fellow actors have also paid their respects.
