King of the Hill Cast Members: Meet the Voice Actors

For 13 seasons, the King of the Hill cast and characters entertained audiences, receiving critical acclaim throughout its run. King of the Hill originally aired on Fox from January 12, 1997, to September 13, 2009. However, it included an additional 3 episodes during its first-run syndication from May 3 to May 6, 2010.

Created by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, King of the Hill is set in the fictional city of Arlen, Texas, and revolves around the Hill family, their neighbors, friends, and relatives. Judge and Daniels announced the show’s revival in January 2022, and it was picked up by Hulu in January 2023. However, the King of the Hill reboot is scheduled for release sometime in early 2025. Here are the top King of the Hill cast/voice actors and their characters.

Mike Judge as Hank Hill

Besides being the show’s co-creator, Mike Judge voices King of the Hill protagonist Hank Hill. Hank is the patriarch of the Hill family and works as an assistant manager at Strickland Propane. Hank is an everyday man and father known for his calm demeanor. He’s hardworking, honest, disciplined, and a loyal friend. However, as a traditional conservative man, his views and beliefs often get him into trouble in today’s ever-changing world.

Besides voicing Hank Hill, Mike Judge also voices Jeff Boomhauer, who’s often referred to by his last name. Boomhauer is Hill’s neighbor, known for his love for fast cars and women, as well as his fast-paced and nearly incomprehensible speech. Mike Judge also voices other minor characters in the show. As an actor, animator, and producer, Mike Judge has a growing list of credits on-screen and off-screen. Mike Judge is known for creating/co-creating TV shows such as Beavis and Butt-Head, The Goode Family (2009), Silicon Valley (2014–2019), and In the Know (2024).

Kathy Najimy as Peggy Hill

American actress and activist Kathy Najimy voices Hank’s wife, Peggy Hill. Although she has little comprehension of Spanish, Peggy is the substitute Spanish teacher. She’s a confident and passionate woman who takes great pride in her role as a wife and mother. She often sees herself as highly competent and knowledgeable, but her overconfidence sometimes leads to humorous blunders. Her personality often leads to clashes with her family and neighbors, but she ultimately has a big heart and cares deeply for those around her.

Kathy Najimy is famous for playing Sister Mary Patrick in the 1992 Sister Act and its sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, as well as Mary Sanderson in Hocus Pocus (1993) and its 2022 sequel, Hocus Pocus 2. On television, she’s known for playing Olive Massery in Veronica’s Closet (1997–2000) and Dr. Mildred Finch in Numb3rs (2006–2007). She also starred in Veep (2014–2019), Unforgettable (2015–2016), and Duncanville (2020–2022).

Pamela Adlon as Bobby Hill

American actress Pamela Adlon voices Bobby Hill in King of the Hill. Bobby is the only child of Hank and Peggy and a student of Tom Landry Middle School. Bobby’s 1.5-meter height is well below average for his age. Besides being overweight, he’s portrayed as a good-hearted, kind, and sensitive boy who often finds himself at odds with his father’s traditional Texan values. One major disagreement is Bobby’s unique interests in comedy and cooking.

Besides her enviable credits as a voice actor, Pamela Adlon also has notable credits in live-action projects. Adlon is known for her roles in Conception (2011), Bumblebee (2018), and The King of Staten Island (2020). On television, she played Marcy Runkle in Californication (2007–2014), Dr. Leigh in This Is Us (2020), and Sam Fox in Better Things (2016–2022).

Stephen Root as Bill Dauterive

Actor Stephen Root joined the King of the Hill cast, voicing Hank’s close friend and neighbor, Bill Dauterive. Bill was a former high school football star who’s now overweight, bald, divorced, and a clinically depressed military barber. He’s known for his sensitive nature and hopeless romanticism. Bill’s unsuccessful love life, antics, and self-pity often provided comedic relief in the show.

Stephen Root also voices Buck Strickland in King of the Hill. The actor has had an illustrious career spanning over 60 years. A few of his recent works include playing the blind man, Jim Hudson, in Jordan Peele’s Get Out (2017), Professor Brown in On the Basis of Sex (2018), and Dutch in To Leslie (2022). On television, he recently started as Monroe Fuches/The Raven in Barry (2018–2023) and Ron Petkus in Succession (2021–2023).

Johnny Hardwick as Dale Gribble

Dale Gribble is another of Hank Hill’s neighbors and close friends. He’s known for his eccentric and paranoid nature. Dale is often seen wearing a hat, sunglasses, and a cigarette in hand. He distrusts the government and is known for his conspiracy theories and quirky personality. Although he does have his flaws, Dale is loyal to those he calls friends. American voice actor, comedian, and YouTuber Johnny Hardwick voiced the character of Sale Gribble.

Interestingly, King of the Hill has been Johnny Hardwick’s biggest project of his career. Besides the show, he has only appeared in the indie movie Ruta Wakening, which was also his film debut. Other King of the Hill cast members who appear in supporting roles include Brittany Murphy (voices Luanne Platter), Tom Petty (as Lucky Kleinschmidt), Ashley Gardner (as Nancy Hicks-Gribble), and Toby Huss (as Cotton Hill). It also cast Toby Huss and Lauren Tom as Kahn Souphanousinphone and Minh Souphanousinphone, respectively.
