When Stranger Things debuted on Netflix in the summer of 2016, it didn’t take long for the series to become a huge hit. The perfect balance between science fiction and suspense makes it easy to see why so many people have fallen in love with the show. However, as with many other streaming shows, there have been huge gaps between seasons, resulting in fans trying to find other things to watch. Fortunately, there are other shows like Stranger Things that you may enjoy if you’re a big fan of the series. Continue reading to see a list of five shows like Stranger Things that should be on your watchlist once you finish watching season four.

1. The Umbrella Academy

When it comes to shows like Stranger Things, it’s only right that The Umbrella Academy be at the top of the list. The show debuted on Netflix in 2019 and is based on a comic book series of the same name. The Umbrella Academy centers around a group of adopted siblings who are also superheroes. Although the family is somewhat dysfunctional, they reunited to solve the mystery of their father’s death.

As you can probably guess, this show is full of excitement and mystery, but it also has plenty of humorous moments. Those who enjoy binge-watching will be happy to know there are already three seasons of the show. Unfortunately, there’s no word on whether it will be renewed for a fourth season.

2. I Am Not Okay With This

There have been countless coming-of-age stories over the years, but there’s never been one quite like I Am Not Okay With This. The series is based on a graphic novel of the same name and centers around a teenage girl named Syd who is trying to navigate the challenges of high school while also dealing with the fact that she is developing superpowers.

Just like Stranger Things, this show can appeal to people who aren’t typically interested in science fiction stories. On top of that, I Am Not Okay With This has no shortage of comedy. Sadly, I Am Not Okay With This was canceled after just one season, which may be a deal breaker for people who really like to get invested in the things they watch. However, if you can get past that, this is a show that many Stranger Things fans will probably enjoy.

3. Shadow and Bone

Released in the spring of 2021, Shadow and Bone is based on a series of books written by Leigh Bardugo. The show is about an orphan named Alina who is a map maker in the military. She eventually realizes that she has special gifts which also results in her having the responsibility of working to help save the world. Shadow and Bone can be a little confusing, so it’s definitely the kind of show you’re going to have to pay close attention to. Even though the book series is considered part of the young adult genre, Shadow and Bone is a show that more mature viewers can enjoy, too. There is only one season of Shadow and Bone out now, but the series has been renewed for a second season.

4. Paper Girls

Paper Girls isn’t a Netflix original, unlike the shows we’ve mentioned so far. Instead, this show was released on Amazon Prime, so it may not be as well known as some other shows like Stranger Things. However, Paper Girls is definitely worth checking out. The series follows four 12-year-old girls who work as paper girls in their small town. What starts off as an ordinary delivery day quickly takes a turn when the girls find themselves caught up in a battle between two groups of time travelers. They ultimately find themselves catapulted into the future, where they come in contact with their adult selves. The first season of the show was released in the summer of 2022, and there’s no word if there will be a season two.

5. Silverpoint

Silverpoint is arguably the least known show on our list, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth checking out. Like Stranger Things, Silverpoint is about a group of kids who find themselves at the center of a strange mystery. Those who love nostalgia will also enjoy the fact that Silverpoint is set partly in the late 1990s. The show tells the story of a boy who tries to uncover the mystery of what happened to four kids who vanished in the woods more than 20 years ago. Although it shares some similarities with Stranger Things, Silverpoint is a little less intense, which means that younger viewers can enjoy it as well.
