When you are filming and writing a show that’s based off of a book you cannot always stick to the book 100%. While this may both fans of the book, television like anything else is a business. Like any form of entertainment on television there’s always a bit of Hollywood magic involved so that the show can appeal to wider audience and be as popular and profitable as possible. A fine example of this is one of the most popular shows on television if not of all-time: Game of Thrones.
There are those that watch the show and are book buffs. They closely follow the plot, characters, even visual aesthetic of the show to see how much it matches up to the books. Then there are those who are simply wowed by the show and never give the books much thought at all. The show caters to both. They’ll take parts of the book and match them up almost entirely on the show and at the same time cater to audiences who like to see a character be prettier, a dragon more fierce, and a setting more ominous.
But what if we were to stick to the book exactly on GOT? Glad you asked. I came across some photos of what most of the Game of Thrones characters are supposed to look like if the show stuck to the books. As you’ll see most of them are quite different:
