If anyone saw Sophie Turner coming then they were a lot more tuned in than the rest of us since before Game of Thrones she was largely unknown and hadn’t done anything of note really. But once she took on the role of the auburn-haired eldest daughter of Ned Stark her popularity went off like a rocket and never came back down. Since her initial beginning on the show she’s grown a great deal in her ability and has been seen to expand her talents as he’s taken on another iconic role that people are more than willing to watch, that of Jean Grey in X-Men. Even now there’s another X-Men movie on the horizon, Dark Phoenix, that a lot of people are hoping is going to be redemptive so that the franchise can keep moving forward. If it’s even half as great as the comics were then we’re in for an epic film.
Here are a few things you might not have known about her.
10. Her role on Game of Thrones was her big debut.
She was 13 when she started up on this show and to be honest it felt as though only a few people really liked her since she wasn’t exactly a pleasing character given that she was so head over heels for Joffrey that she would do or say anything to go along with him. But as the seasons progressed so did her character, and as of now Sansa is just as vicious as anyone and has gained a lot more followers.
9. She had a tutor to help her out with schoolwork on the GoT set.
It’s nice to see that kids on the set are still being made to study and provide themselves with an education. She did this until she was 16 and was an A and B student for much of the time, though curiously she did get a B in drama.
8. Sophie is a natural blonde.
For anyone that thought she was a natural redhead that’s just not the case. Sophie is naturally blonde and dyes her hair for her roles, though it’s hard to tell since she does play her role so well that you really don’t focus on the color of her hair that much.
7. She’s a big fan of Jack Nicholson.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is her favorite film, and to be honest that’s kind of inspiring since anyone that was born in the 90s or later seem to sometimes forget that the older movies are the reason why we have the current film industry that we do now. Actors like Nicholson paved the way for those that are so successful in this day and age.
6. She’s good friends with a few of her GoT costars.
If you’ve ever seen pictures, she and Maisie Williams, who plays her sister Arya Stark, have been noticed hanging out together and having a good time on more than one occasion. It’s got to be nice to get along with your costars like this, as it might make working with them a little easier.
5. Sophie has also been a model at one point.
She does have the figure and the poise for it since she looks as though she could walk a runway and be completely at ease. A lot of actresses have come from the modeling business it would seem.
4. She has ADHD and has been dealing with it since childhood.
One misconception that a lot of people have about ADHD is that they believe that people afflicted with the disorder can only focus on one thing that calms them down and otherwise jump from one thing to another as a habit. The truth is that a lot of people with ADHD are over-stimulated and need something to help them focus so they’re not trying to do everything at once.
3. She became engaged to Joe Jonas in 2017.
It’s a big hope that they’ll stay together since a lot of celebrity relationships don’t seem to go all the far until they crumble for one reason or another. Some last and some do very well, but it’s not always in the cards, hopefully they’ll do well.
2. Her role on GoT came from the social media following she’d amassed before auditioning.
She’s even admitted that there was a better actress there auditioning but she got the role anyway since more people followed her on social media. There’s a problem with this because it speaks of not hiring on merit, but it’s a lesser problem since more people wanted to see Sophie than the other actress.
1. She’s very close to the role she plays on GoT.
Sophie has truly molded herself into the role and as a result has become Sansa in a way that many of her costars have noticed. It’s not uncommon actually for actors to do this as their own personality starts to change a bit as they take on the role of a character for this long.
It’s going to be interesting to see what happens to Sansa in the final season of Game of Thrones.
