10 Things You Didn’t Know about the Movie “Tango and Cash”

Tango & Cash is one of those movies you either liked or you didn’t. It wasn’t meant to be a very challenging film. It’s two main stars were noted action heroes and as such weren’t big on cerebral film making back in the day. Still, it had it’s good moments and was one of the more popular movies in its time for a little while. The only problem was that it was released during a time when action movies were a dime a dozen and picking which one you wanted to watch was about as simple as picking which apple you wanted out of a grocer’s bin. This one might have had a few dings and a couple of glaring problem spots but it was still one of the more entertaining films of its time.

Here are a few interesting facts that you might not have known about the movie.

10. Stallone talks a lot faster when the situation is stressful.

If you can’t understand him that well when he’s speaking slowly then it’s very likely that you can’t understand him at all when he’s trying to talk quickly. His words kind of meld together to form one long, mongrel sentence in which you might be able to decipher one or two words at best.

9. Newspaper clippings are used to deliver the plot points.

Every time a plot point came up they would use a newspaper clipping that was flashed in front of the camera so as to give the audience a heads up as to which direction the movie was about to go in. That’s why I say it wasn’t much of a cerebral movie. The audience was spoon fed for the entire time.

8. Jack Palance knew how to be uber creepy.

The guy sniffed mice during the movie. Really, he sniffed mice. Plus he needs no help on how to be a creepy old villain. He was in the game long enough to have picked up a number of tricks that would make his character even more unnerving than usual.

7. The British villain wasn’t all that convincing.

He sounded more like he was from New Zealand really, or maybe South Africa, I get those mixed up somehow. But he definitely didn’t sound like a Brit.

6. Apparently it’s possible to use a slinky as a weapon.

I can totally see this with the old metal slinkies but definitely not with the new plastic ones.

5. Terri Hatcher actually learned how to play the drums for a scene.

Granted she didn’t have to play for very long but it was still impressive enough that she learned what she did.

4. It had one of the worst puns ever delivered in the film industry.

When Cash’s boss tries coming through his door unannounced he gets pounced on and since there’s a mesh screen on the door he asks, “Is this how you screen your guests?” Yeah, horrible, but it worked at the time.

3. The one-liners were a bit odd.

It’s hard to believe what writer’s used to get away with in movies. Wait, no it’s not, they still do it.

2. The prison cells were real.

The authenticity of the movie in some ways was very easy to respect since the prison scenes looked absolutely real thanks to the location.

1. Fubar became a popular acronym again thanks to this film.

It means pretty much the same thing no matter how you say it, but there are a few more PC versions than what Cash decided to use.

It’s still a classic, I don’t care what anyone says.
