Why We Love Over-the-Top Action Movies
Movies, particularly action films, often go way over the top, and for a good reason: it’s entertaining. By way over the top, I’m referring to the constant barrage of sequences that are so unrealistic you catch yourself rolling your eyes, thinking, “OK, this would never happen in real life.” While the movie wasn’t particularly great, I always felt that Last Action Hero did an excellent job at poking fun at how ridiculous movies can get sometimes. Remember when Arnold goes into the real world, shoots a car, and it doesn’t blow up?
Another great example is the movie The Big Hit, which I felt was another underrated film that 100% overdid it on purpose just for the sake of doing so. If you’re interested in finding out the exact truth behind some of the movie’s major myths, then you might like what we picked up today.
Illustrating Movie Myths
Lenya Brick from Brightside has created a series of illustrations that shed light on cliches that we’ve become so used to, we even started taking them as the real thing. From badass shooting with multiple guns to restarting hearts at the last second, these cliches don’t hold much weight in the real world.
Myth 1: Shooting Multiple Guns at Once
Myth 2: Restarting Hearts at the Last Second
Myth 3: The Hero Always Gets the Girl
Myth 4: Cars Explode on Impact
Myth 5: Silencers Make Guns Whisper-Quiet
Myth 6: One Person Can Take on an Army
Myth 7: Hacking is Easy and Quick
Myth 8: Chloroform Knocks People Out Instantly
Myth 9: You Can Outrun an Explosion
Myth 10: Defibrillators Can Restart a Flatlined Heart
These illustrations serve as a fun reminder that while movies can be incredibly entertaining, they often stretch the truth for the sake of a good story. So, the next time you’re watching an action-packed film, remember to take it with a grain of salt and enjoy the ride.
