For those of you who haven’t kept up with Michael Jordan’s relationships, he ended up dating Yvette Prieto for five years before settling down and tying the knot with her. Yvette was 35 at the time and Michael was 50. Yvette enjoyed a beautiful and elaborate wedding with more than 300 guests in attendance for the ceremony and an additional 1,000 at the reception. 1. She is a model
Michael Jordan is a sports celebrity, but his wife is also a star in her domain. She is a professional American model. Her career took off and she did remarkably well as a commercial model and a bikini model, working for some of the most prestigious designers such as Alexander Wang.
2. She is Cuban-American
Yvette was born in Cuba in 1979 to her parents Carlos and Maria Prieto. Since coming to the United States, she has become a citizen of the country. She attended college and majored in business management.
3. Modeling wasn’t her first career choice
Yvette Prieto worked for a few different companies before becoming a model. She put the things she learned studying business management to good use. Yvette worked in Miami at Beet the LBS and Aqua Management before turning to her career in glamour. One of the things that made her decide to leave the business world is that she disagreed with the way that things were going at her father’s company, and left for a modeling career.
4. She dated other celebrities
Michael Jordan is not the first famous person that Yvette has been in a relationship with. In fact, she was romantically linked with a member of the Iglesias family. It wasn’t Enrique or his famous father, but rather, Julio Iglesias Jr., who was named after his dad. In an interview, Julio described her as a “very good person,” and had nothing but good to say about Prieto.
5. She’s into politics
Yvette keeps herself in the know about current affairs going on in the political world. She was initially a Republican, but her views led her to later become an Independent. She is not terribly outspoken, but Prieto is also not afraid to stand up for what she believes in and she shares her opinion when the situation calls for it.
6. Prieto had issues with the media
After Yvette and Michael began to see one another, their relationship attracted the eyes and ears of the media. They had problems with the paparazzi showing up any time the couple tried to go out in public. It seemed that they could not escape them, but their relationship remained strong and they continued on to move in together in 2009, then later marry.
7. Her first home with Michael was modest
You would think that the couple who has massive wealth between the two of them would live in a luxurious high priced home. Their first house together was a 3 bedroom, 5,500 square foot home, located in Kendal, Florida and it is reported that the cost was a mere $300,000. This shows that they are both down to earth people who don’t live a life of reckless spending.
8. She has her own wealth
Yvette Prieto was herself on the verge of financial ruin around the time that she met Michael Jordan. It became necessary for her to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, but this was prior to meeting her now husband. She pulled her business affairs together and got to work to build a net worth of $1.5 million.
9. Yvette didn’t rush into marriage
Yvette Prieto and Michael Jordan spent a lot of time together before deciding to say their vows. The couple had been dating for three years before he proposed to her in 2011 at Christmas time. The couple had been living together since 2009 and they developed their relationship before making their way down the alter to make it a legal contract. Their wedding took place in April of 2013 with just 300 guests in attendance at the ceremony and an extra 1,000 guests at the reception in Jupiter, Florida. She wore a cathedral train gown that featured Swarovski crystal embeds.

When Michael and Yvette first met, she was tripping the light fantastic at a Miami nightclub in 2008. She was “freak dancing” with Jordan and it was at this time that she really caught his eye. She’s an amazing dancer in addition to her other many talents.
