He’s in the kind of place where you get to make a second decision to start over, and he’s doing just that. He’s not interested in anything else, and we don’t even blame him. He’s the kind of man who wants this second chance more than he wants anything — but has he really changed?
Sure, he’s mentioned to Gloria he’s not really looking for anything more than just a little fun. She, on the other hand, was looking for a lot more. Now that he’s decided he doesn’t want a public relationship with her, he’s decided he will continue his private relationship with her so that he can get what he wants from her.
He’s using her. It’s what he does. He uses people so he can get what he wants from them, and he doesn’t feel bad about it. So here he is working on getting back together with his married ex-wife, and it’s a bad idea. Gloria isn’t the kind of woman you marry, but she’s also not the kind of woman you cross when you have a chance to do otherwise. She’s not someone you want to mess with — and that’s what he’s failing to remember as he moves on with his relationship with her.
