What We Know About Kevin Feige’s Star Wars Movie So Far

Feige Star Wars

So despite his words to the contrary in the recent past Kevin Feige has managed to come around and is now working on a Star Wars movie. B. Alan Orange of MovieWeb doesn’t have any more details concerning this matter other than what we already know, that he’s working on the movie and that Kathleen Kennedy is still, somehow, being praised for wanting to move in a different direction after The Rise of Skywalker. It’s hard to praise Kennedy at all at this point since after The Last Jedi it’s evident that her vision includes ignoring the fans and what they’d like to see. It might be best to simply state that Feige might be a breath of fresh air…so long as Kennedy isn’t breathing over his shoulder when it comes to the next Star Wars project.

Even better would be if the rumors of Brie Larson being considered to be just that, rumors. Jeremy Dick of MovieWeb is just one of many that’s managed to point out that it might be possible for Feige to tap Larson for a role, but if the Star Wars franchise needed another issue then Larson would definitely deliver it since throughout her time in the MCU thus far she’s divided a great number of fans. It could be that she’s a fan, which would explain why she’s talked about it and even shown up at Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland, but at this point the rumblings in social media are hard to ignore. Letting go of why Brie Larson would be a horrible idea when it comes to casting for a Star Wars role, let’s go into why it might be that some fans are pensive about Kevin Feige coming on board, especially when it means he’d be working with Kathleen Kennedy, who’s already shown that she can’t keep her political views out of the movie theater. Given that Feige will no doubt want to appease the fans and those he’s working with/for it’s likely that a Star Wars movie under his direction will be seeing a number of changes that might make jaws drop and vloggers to go nuts shortly after seeing the movie.

It’s early to say such things, but the track record for those that took over Star Wars after Disney purchased Lucasfilm isn’t all that great so far. Maybe as details keep coming in we’ll be able to say more and more positive things that will mark a desired turn in the Star Wars franchise that could send it back on course and away from the need to be so highly feminized or even given a political lean that made little sense. But until then we’ll be crossing our fingers and not holding our breath in the hope that things will turn around. In fact we still need to see how The Rise of Skywalker is going to turn out to really get a good idea of what’s going to happen when the story as we know it is going to end and give rise to another bout of Star Wars stories. The trilogy that’s reportedly being started by the creators of Game of Thrones is reportedly going back to the days of the Old Republic, so perhaps we’ll finally get something that’s going to adhere to the source material, since unless Disney is willing to simply scrap the prequels and really screw itself over, then the Old Republic should hopefully remain faithful to what’s already been laid down.

According to Matt Joseph of We Got This Covered it almost sounds as though Disney actually wants Brie Larson to head the next Star Wars angle moving forward, though hopefully she’ll be too busy ‘leading’ the MCU to make the jump over. That’s kind of a wasted hope in one regard since you can imagine they might make it happen, but it’d be a serious disappointment and mistake if they were to do this. You might ask why since Captain Marvel did pretty well in the box office, but it would be largely because Larson, despite being an Oscar winner, hasn’t really proven that she’s that great as of yet. As far as taking charge of the MCU she’s been a milquetoast character that’s been there when needed but otherwise hasn’t really proven that she’s all that great. The reason Iron Man/Tony Stark was so revered after the first movie was because of his personality, and the fact that people simply felt that something great was being started. Bringing her to the Star Wars universe would be, if Feige did this, one of the worst decisions possible since it might leave Star Wars less than relevant, it be the next step taken to killing off a franchise that people truly enjoy.

So far all we know however is that Feige is making a Star Wars movie, beyond that it’s all just a guess at this point.
