There no more manly a feeling then when your wife calls you freaking out because there’s a spider lurking somewhere in the basement knowing that only you have the power to dispose of it with your prowess. Seriously, that’s how I feel when I kill insects in my house. So you can imagine how I felt when I saw this video of rope-free climber Alex Honnold scaling what appears to be an impossible piece of rock. I was crushed. I simply cannot believe that there’s a person out there doing this (and is still alive no less).
These hair-raising moments are the first video footage from renowned rock climber Alex Honnold’s ascent of the 3,000-foot wall of El Capitan–without a rope. On June 3rd, Honnold became the first person ever to free solo climb this famous rock face at Yosemite National Park, California. The video was shot by Jimmy Chin (who also photographed the climb) for an upcoming documentary by National Geographic.
