Buddy Guy does an awesome job performing Jimi Hendrix’s Red House on Jimmy Kimmel, which is great since doing anything less than a great show when you’re playing something from Hendrix just isn’t acceptable. This is especially great since Buddy Guy was one of the people that influenced Jimi Hendrix, so you know that he’s going to show this song all the love and respect it deserves. When you think of Jimi Hendrix from the perspective of a person that never got to see him in concert and didn’t get to see him rise to prominence, blues isn’t exactly what you think of, but when you listen to this song and then realize what he was all about you get the feeling that there is a lot more to learn.

The technology that has come along since those days when Hendrix was such a pioneer in the music industry however has a lot to do with this current sound no matter that Guy is one of the absolute best in the business. The sound of this song at this moment is something beyond what Hendrix did, but give it to the man that created the song, that made it pop for the first time, he led the way. Old dogs like Buddy Guy though are keeping it alive in a way that can’t be denied or forgotten since to lose something like this to music history would be unbearably tragic. It’s hard to fully describe just what it means to enjoy the kind of music that Hendrix played and so many people have tried to emulate, but the feel of it is such that you can’t help but sway to it the moment it hits your ears. That’s the effect of something great that can’t and won’t be denied once you hear it since it’s something you don’t want to lose once you’ve experienced it for the first time.

Music is more than just notes and the mathematical equation that some people see when they look at a sheet of paper with dots and squiggly lines on it. It’s a feeling deep down that kindles the spirit and helps give meaning to different facets of life that would empty otherwise without some sort of sound to act as a backdrop to the soul. Many people that have come through the music world and left their mark feel many different ways about it, but one way in particular seems to sum it up for anyone that’s ever delved into their craft so deeply that they’ve felt the absolute energy it brings and the power that it holds deep inside. Music is what keeps the demons at bay.

You can take that any way you want, but the truth of it is that music is what helps stave off every negative emotion a person could ever feel. When you feel the beat and you understand just what it can do for your peace of mind you tend to embrace it just a little bit more, if only for that moment. It’s part of what makes life worth living.
