After watching Braun Strowman demolish a giant truck on WWE I’m convinced now that they’ve upped their game and are training their people as professional stunt men. Do I believe he really lifted it? Nope, sorry Braun, not unless there was no engine under that hood and the inside was stripped completely bare. Even then I think that he would need some serious help. So why don’t I think this? Braun Strowman, whose real name is Adam Joseph Scherr, is a literal powerhouse, but even he isn’t going to be lifting a 9-ton truck all by his lonesome without some serious injuries to come. The guy is stronger than pretty much anyone on the roster, but he’s not Superman.
He is a strongman competitor though, and watching old clips when he was going under his real name for the Arnold Classic were some of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. This is a guy that can apparently lift a 500 lb. hay bale and go walking around with like it’s no big deal. I still don’t believe he’s going to lift a truck that outweighs him by thousands of pounds, even with the right leverage. That thing would have to be resting on a pretty serious incline and be top heavy at the same time in order to Braun to achieve this feat this easily.
If you watch the clip you’ll see that the camera if focused on Braun and the LOWER HALF of the truck, thereby leaving the upper half uncovered. It’s the same if you look at this follow up clip that cuts away in order to come at Braun and the truck from another angle. The top of the truck is never shown, thereby it’d be easy enough to attach a tow cable of some sort to an anchor point and have something that’s capable of pulling that truck over to do all the work while giving Braun all the credit. Nice one WWE, I’m sure a lot of fans were suitably impressed and that’s the point. It’s all in the angles that they use and the cameras they cut to since there are about three or so of them on Braun the entire time.
Each camera though is used from a different angle and kept low enough and to the side so that nothing can be seen of the rig on the other side that has to be pulling on that truck. When the truck finally falls over the cameras keep their designated angles, thereby hiding the rig behind it that was doing the towing, and Braun gets to remain the Monster Among Men with the freakish strength and build. It’s a little bit of TV magic that a lot of fans will be talking about later but the truly sensible ones won’t buy into as much.
If I ruined the magic for you I do apologize but take into account what the strongest deadlift in human history has ever been, around 1,100 lbs., and then factor in that the truck in this clip likely weighs several tons at the least, even if it’s been stripped. Braun is strong, but he’s not THAT strong.
