The Walking Dead cast gathered to honor a superfan that succumbed to cancer just a few days ago. Any fan can call themselves a superfan, but someone that gets the attention of the cast in a way that not only causes them to remember them and what they do for others is someone that has gone way above and beyond to accomplish something that is extremely impressive. Lisa Williams was a regular at conventions and gatherings that had to do with TWD and was known and loved by many of the cast and crew members for her spirit and her big heart. It’s unfortunate that she lost her battle with lung cancer, but her heart and her legacy are going to live on so long as people remember her. The charitable organizations and contributions she made to the world are what she will be remembered by and the cast of TWD have all expressed their gratitude for having known her and their sorrow at her passing.
Shows such as this have millions of fans ranging from the most casual to those like Lisa that are firmly embedded into the culture. Many seek to take what they can from the show while calling themselves fans while others are casual observers that watch the show and enjoy the atmosphere it brings. Fans like Lisa however are those that not only love the show but are integrated into it in a way that comes just short of being a part of the actual cast. She was the type that would make every convention she could that much better just by walking into the room it would seem according to the cast. To hear any celebrity say such a thing about anyone that’s not famous is impressive and heartwarming as it reminds you that despite their elevated status in society that they are capable of being people just like anyone else. That Lisa brought this out in people is a testament to who she was and how much she cared.
Her charitable work with Team Lincoln that went towards the aid of Barnardo’s, a children’s charity in the UK, managed to raise $30,000, which is no small sum of money for many people. Andrew Lincoln, aka Rick Grimes, is the ambassador of Barnardo’s and like the rest of the cast was grateful to have met Lisa and known her if only for a while. The spirit of this woman was so intense that it’s safe to say that she’ll be on people’s minds for some time to come. After all in a world of billions it takes a lot to stand out sometimes, even if so many others never know who you are. If you can gain the attention of some though you’re on the right track, and if you can help others while you’re at it then that’s a life well-lived. What we say, what we do, and how we interact with the world around us will be the legacy that defines us when we’re gone.
For Lisa Williams it seems enough to say that she’ll be remembered as a person that gave what she could without being asked, and that is the mark of a real person.
