The Vampire Diaries Review: Bonnie the BAMF

Tvd

The loophole to save Bonnie’s life turned her into Rayna 2.0. Bonnie has been a witch, a ghost, an anchor to the Other Side, but we’ve never seen her play as dark (and strong) a character as she’s now a Huntress on The Vampire Diaries.

It took 3 tries to lure Bonnie out of her slumber into her new life because as her friends correctly assumed, she was fighting the urge to become this vampire hunter. Her brain was literally rewiring itself one memory at a time. She didn’t know what she was doing when she marked all her vampire friends who were only trying to help her but now that she’s awake, she’s got her targets set.

Unfortunately this means Caroline has no other choice but to run away as far as possible and leave Ric and their daughters. Of course she has Stefan with her because he knows exactly what she’s going through and maybe, just maybe she’s starting to forgive him for leaving her 3 years ago when he was being hunted by Rayna. Next week is already the season finale but with Steroline road tripping together I think it’s safe to say there will be developments made on the Ric/Caroline/Stefan triangle.

After Enzo tried and failed to get Bonnie to fight her growing killer instincts, Damon worked his magic by appealing to her worst fears to trigger a reaction. The setting for Damon’s dream visit was an old familiar one, Elena’s front porch. After Bonnie did indeed wake up she was creepier than ever. Now she can not only mentally watch where her targets are, but also sense their emotions. She knows there was a partial truth to what Damon said. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to any of us that the only reason he saved Bonnie time and again was because Elena would never forgive him if he didn’t. That’s definitely true for old Damon but after their time trapped in Kai’s prison world together, Damon really did grow to love Bonnie just as much as Elena did.

Enzo kept himself occupied by contacting the shaman who helped transfer Rayna’s last life onto Bonnie. I hoped and prayed we hadn’t seen the last of the Armory after Bonnie opened the vault and sealed the building to keep the force of evil trapped inside it. As luck would have it, the key to the Huntress’ curse is linked to something in the Armory.

And there we have it, the set up for the seventh season finale next week. Bonnie’s chasing after Caroline, Damon and Enzo will be unleashing an unspeakable evil spirit into the world, and Stefan and Caroline may or may not get back together. Sounds about right for a Vampire Diaries finale!
