The Naruto series tended to use the Uchiha clan as the example of what evil characters were supposed to be like. In truth though the Uchiha weren’t that bad save for several members of their clan. It can’t be denied however that the Uchiha clan, or those that have been notoriously violent and quite evil, have marked their clan with a horrible reputation that fans have been enjoying for some time. In every series ever created there has to be a villain to make everything believable, and the Uchiha fit the bill in Naruto since they are gifted and very powerful fighters who possess a limited sense of morality at times that makes them seem rather unstable. Whether it’s because they simply want to be bad and go on a destructive tear or they go to extremes for what they think are the right reasons, the Uchiha have been regarded as villains throughout the Naruto series without fail many times.
Here are a few facts you might not have known about them.
10. The founder of the clan created ninjutsu.
Ninjutsu was, in this manner, brought about because it was considered to be a stronger style and more worthwhile than any other fighting form. It was a means to dominate and to gain even more power by proving that ninshu was weak and inferior by comparison.
9. Sasuke was never supposed to exist.
Sasuke was basically brought in for Naruto. He was the foil to Naruto in many ways and despite not existing before the idea came along to have someone for Naruto to grow up with, the idea of Sasuke was pretty much nonexistent.
8. A lot of the clan members didn’t want Madare to become Hokage.
When you’re trying to control your own clan and they don’t want to back you for the top spot then there must be a problem that wasn’t seen until the last second. Madare’s methods were, to many in the Uchiha clan, less than adequate and to the weary clan it seemed as though backing him would have been the opposite of a good idea. You just know that when your own clan doesn’t back you that you’ve done something wrong.
7. During the genocide Itachi’s lover was the first to die.
Itachi went wild on the clan that night, but it was kind of obvious that he had some feelings for his lover, who he managed to let down peacefully. But death and destruction seems to follow the Uchiha pretty much throughout the story of Naruto, painting them as both tragic and quite vicious.
6. Genjutsu is used as torture.
Imagine the torture of having to live through something like genocide over and over and over, and not having even the slightest bit of control over it. When Sasuke had every intention of killing Itachi he never got a single lick in since Itachi used his genjutsu to control Sasuke’s mind, forcing him to relieve the horrors that Itachi had committed over and over, a running loop of mayhem and murder that few if any beings could withstand.
5. Some members of the clan received a spinoff.
It’s not too often that you get to see a villain receive a spinoff series from the main series, but Sasuke was one of those given his own series to show the lighter version of the character. It helped to further develop Sasuke and it was possible since the fans managed to really come together and care about the Uchiha clan.
4. Not all of them rely on fire.
Sasuke and Madara were both known for not clinging to fire techniques as the rest of the clan did, hewing to lightning and wind techniques respectively. Just because it works for some members of the clan doesn’t mean it’s going to be the favored technique of all of them after all.
3. The power that Madara received from Kishimoto was an accident.
This is almost like the Superman dilemma, creating a character so powerful that they can’t be killed unless the creator actually finds a way to take them out. That kind of writing is a bit sloppy to some since it means that a person really doesn’t want to have to let go of their creation, but thankfully Kishimoto managed to find a way to remedy this problem and deal with the monster he’d created.
2. There was a big issue with brotherly love in the clan.
It wasn’t perfect but the clan members did care for each other in their own way. The simple fact is that they didn’t always get along but they did manage to make peace at the end. That’s what counts, right?
1. It was believed that power and force could solve anything.
When you believe that the acquisition of power can grant you anything, even peace, you might have a serious problem, hence Indra and Madara, but thankfully with Sasuke things seem to be turning around.
The Uchiha that came before were definitely villains, but things did change eventually.
