You kind of have to wonder if Black Bart is going to make an appearance in his customary daydream sequence in this version too or if Ralphie will have some other type of daydream to ponder over while picking his shot with his trusty, coveted firearm.
Do I sound excited? Honestly it’s a mix of nerves and anticipation as to what this classic movie would even look like as a musical. Well one thing we all know at this point just from reading the various articles is that Ralphie’s mom will be played by none other than Maya Rudolph, so there’s hope already. Now it’s left to be seen who’s going to play the rest of the cast. You know, his dad, Randy, Flick, Scut Ferguson, and all the rest. Yes I know I left a couple out but really, it’s easier to remember a few than every one of them sometimes. Plus, who in the world is going to play Ralphie?

Despite being a musical taking from the source material is still very important. It’s going to be necessary to take what is possible and use it to create a very faithful rendition of A Christmas Story. There are going to be two new songs in these version and at least one of them is going to have more of a contemporary feel to it. The idea of this musical is to remind people that it doesn’t matter so much what era the story is set in, but instead to show the wide range of emotions that are felt during this time of year. Most of us should be able to remember back to the days when we were kids to what Christmas meant and why we were so excited. That’s what this musical is attempting to do.
The roles cast for the musical could be groundbreaking for at least a few actors.
Actress Maya Rudolph is already well-established and as such should be a joy to watch in this musical as she brings her own sense of style and grace to the role. Depending on who is picked for the other roles it could become a once in a lifetime deal that makes them famous for a few minutes, or a new beginning to a life that might become very exciting in a big hurry. There’s no telling what could happen and how a solid performance could so easily allow an individual to break into the big time and become the next big thing.
To be honest I’m a little leery about it, but it could end up being something unique and very impressive if it’s done right. Even if it’s not, we’ll always have the original.
