Could Storage Wars be a 30-year show? It’s very possible, but a few key things would have to happen before that could come to pass. The show started up in 2010 and it was a fun show to start with and in some ways it still is. But after finding out just what some of these people are worth and how the entire show is run it’s a little less entertaining since we know it’s all fake now. If America is screaming out for anything at this point it’s authenticity and a return to something that is actually real instead of really over-scripted.
There’s a little animosity there at times, there’s no doubt of that, but the rest of it is so scripted they might as well be carrying their lines around with them just so they don’t forget. There’s no doubt that buying used storage lockers is real, but it’s also just about as risky as it gets since the show isn’t all real. True reality doesn’t always sell after all and the networks aren’t going to take a chance on something that’s going to bomb because it’s too boring. So they come up with shows that are going to slam people together that do the same thing and create conflicts between them while at the same time creating interest when they find something unique and inherently valuable. If you didn’t know this then you need to look it up and realize the truth, the lockers are seeded, as in the rare finds that are discovered in just about every other show are not the norm for storage lockers. Think of it this way, some of the lockers that have turned out thousands upon thousands of dollars are possible to find since they could be part of an estate or someone genuinely forgot about it, but chances are that someone would come back for that stuff without fail.
Thinking you can make a living off of this kind of thing without having anything on the side is also kind of garbage since the risk involved is enormous. Plus the skill level of those on the show is not as high as you might think. In terms of their business savvy there are a few of them that are obviously quite intelligent and even wise, but the idea that they could build a fortune on this kind of thing alone is a little hard to swallow. It’s possible, but the scraping and scratching that needs to be done in order to make it happen is something that the show will never bring to light. So yes, it could be a 30-year show, but only if the talent coming in is just as great and engaging as the talent that will eventually have to leave due to age. Plus, the idea that real doesn’t sell needs to change since the wind-up to riches is getting kind of old.
At this rate people are going to go to an auction thinking there’s a pot of gold hidden in a mountain of crap every single time.
