The Top Five “Treehouse of Horror” Episodes from The Simpsons

While the ranking system might say otherwise some of these episodes I think deserve a higher spot on the list largely because they contained stories that were more interesting than others and were of a higher caliber of story. This is a matter of opinion of course and yours might differ, but when it comes to the Simpsons the Treehouse of Horror episode has always been one that’s been entertaining and very popular among Simpsons fans. While some episodes have been better than others all of them have had a unique look at various aspects of pop culture that are easy to recognize and have come through in a very fun way.

Here are five of the best Treehouse of Horror episodes.

5. Treehouse of Horror XI

The attack of the dolphins was a story that was so crazy that it actually made sense, though the idea that dolphins would want to attack humans isn’t so much far-fetched as it is flat out crazy. Of course that’s what the Simpsons is all about isn’t it? Plugging up their blowholes seems to be a strange way to subdue or even kill them but it seemed to work, at least with one of them.

Watching Homer sell his soul for a donut wasn’t too surprising really, since he often thinks before he speaks and sometimes eats before he does either one. The idea that he could eat so many donuts though is definitely one that fits Homer to a tee since he’s like a big, dumb dog that will go on eating and eating until he bursts. Give him credit though, he managed to stymie the devil.

3. Treehouse of Horror III

Because reading from magical tomes is always a good idea, right? Bart and Lisa attempt to bring back Lisa’s cat Snowball and instead end up raising a cemetery full of dead people, pretty standard stuff it would seem for a Treehouse of Horror episode. Plus in this one Homer plays the role of Kong and goes on a rampage throughout the city before collapsing, from a few feet up.

2. Treehouse of Horror II

Do you recall the Twilight Zone episode in which the little boy that could make things happen by thinking about them was considered to be the most dangerous person alive? Now think about a kid like Bart Simpson having that power and just cringe as you wonder what he could possibly think up that would fit his warped little imagination. Yikes.

1. Treehouse of Horror V

While it might seem like a ripoff the Simpsons homage to The Shining, titled The Shinning, is pretty funny since watching Homer go insane is a little more low key and enjoyable than watching Jack Nicholson slip and slide along the brink of madness. At least with Homer if you have a TV and it works then you might be in the clear. Of course if the TV turns off or features a show he doesn’t like then all bets are off.

The Simpsons definitely know how to do Halloween right.
