Henry Rollins has done a lot of things in his life to date, but one of the best is just being hardcore no matter where he seems to go. Seeing him as a comedian isn’t too hard since he’s a pretty funny guy. But the look of him says that this is a guy that takes nothing from anyone and could go megaton on anyone if he so chose at the drop of a hat. Apparently he’s got his own set of quirks and oddities, but really who doesn’t? Deep down he seems like a good guy, but man does he look like he can just get flat out intense.
Even when he’s being calm it seems like he could flip at any moment.
5. Jackass: The Movie
Here’s where that aforementioned intensity comes in. Rollins does the Off Road Tattoo scene in which Steve-O, poor Steve-O, is about to get a tattoo of a smiley face while going off road. As soon as the clip starts you know that Rollins is going to bouncing that jeep as hard as he can get it to go without flipping the dang thing. And just like you would expect he throws a few key expletives in there for the benefit of the movie.
4. Feast
He plays kind of a sleaze in this film since he’s trying to pick up on a waitress when his wedding ring somehow slips out of his pocket and reveals the game. He’s stuck in the bar for some reason or another and when trouble starts he becomes one of the last guys you’d want to depend on. Somehow he survives through most of the movie but you don’t really see how since he’s got these weird ideas of what to do in a crisis.
3. The Chase
More intensity comes in this film as he plays a cop that feels the need to relay to the camera just what he and his partner are doing as they take off after a kidnapper who has a young woman hostage. This time however the intensity creates a kind of goofy and laughable quality that makes the movie a bit more endurable since he goes over the top so easily and just comes off as a rather macho, over-compensating individual.
2. Bad Boys 2
Here’s where the cop role gets serious since he’s one of the specialists that’s aiming to come in and raid the bad guys while they’re in the middle of a drug smuggling operation. He even gets to come back to the party for the home invasion when they go to rescue Marcus’ sister. I happen to love the part when he leaves the bomb that’s labeled as a home-warming gift for the drug lord. I thought that was a nice touch.
1. The New Guy
There is such a thing as getting too comfortable with your prisoners, but at least this is a comedy so it’s easy to laugh off. For real, he’s out in the yard getting tatted up with the prisoners and tells the lead character to butch up a bit since he’s whining so much about getting a tattoo on his hand.
Ah Rollins, this guy is awesome in a lot of ways.
