The Top Five Biggest News Stories Out of New York Comic Con 2017

It’s been over 10 years since New York Comic Con first happened, and the event just keeps getting bigger and better each year. This year’s Comic Con proved to be one of its best; from the most outrageous costumes to the best guest panels available, fans got a few days worth of comic bliss and straight up awesomeness. We’ve listed for you here five of the biggest news stories that emerged from NYCC this year.

1. Celebrating Batman

25 years since Batman: The Animated Series first graced our TV sets, and we’re seeing the impact the show has done for cartoon animations. This particular series was geared for the teenage audience instead of kids, so there was more depth and definition to plot lines. A panel of some of the show’s key personnel was one of the most anticipated events from NYCC 2017. The panel included creator Bruce Timm, writer and producer Alan Burnett, Batgirl actress Tara Strong, and of course, Kevin Conroy, the man who played Batman. The biggest development for this is the show will be available in Blu-ray by next year.

2. Star Wars

Another anticipated event for NYCC is the release of the latest Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer. Before we get into that, we have to talk about the Star Wars booth that gave us clues about the movie also. We saw a red Praetorian Guard helmet and explanations about their weapons, Kylo Ren’s TIE Silencer, and other details also. There were no Star Wars panel this year, but the debut of the official trailer was enough. All we can say is that raw strength will meet its destiny in the next installment of the movie.

3. X-Files are Back, Again

It’s true. We saw the official trailer of Mulder and Scully’s return to life, and it looks really, really good. The X-Files have gone through ups and downs when it comes to revivals, and this one might actually have a shot at a decent one. We see tons of action, a solid plot line, and the familiar, older faces of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. When Scully says at the end, “The truth is still in the X-Files,” we couldn’t help but shiver a little bit at the notion.

4. Justice League

What’s our world now without superheroes? We’ve been getting teases here and there of the upcoming Justice League film, but we finally got a view of the official full trailer at NYCC 2017. We see all the action, of course, tons of explosives and smart lines. We welcome the new characters, but we’re glad that Superman might finally be returning.

5. The Punisher and The Walking Dead

One of the biggest surprises this year was the cancellation of two of this year’s most anticipated panels: Netflix’s The Punisher and The Walking Dead. Fans were disappointed, to say the least, that they didn’t get a chance to meet the cast of TWD and of the new show, but the cast and crew from both show decided to cancel their appearance due to the shootings at Las Vegas not too long ago. We’ll just have to tune in to the shows to feed our obsessions and hope that next year will feature a panel.
