16. Amy Harper- The Funhouse
Tobe Harper directed this 1981 slasher film which was written by Larry Block. It is about four teenagers who go to a carnival and are stalked by a deformed killer inside a dark ride. Elizabeth Berridge plays the lead role of Amy Harper in this film. Others who starred were Cooper Huckabee, Largo Woodruff, Miles Chapin, Kevin Conway, Sylvia Miles, and William Finley. Both the opening and closing scenes of this movie are famous. In the opening scene, it appears that Amy Harper is being attacked by a masked intruder while she is naked in the shower. The scene is similar to that from the iconic movie ‘Psycho’. It turns out to be her younger brother playing a practical joke. Things take a more sinister turn when she goes to the carnival with her friends and they are all killed by a deranged killer on a ride. Amy Harper is the only one to survive. In the final scene, a traumatized Amy emerges from the funhouse while the animatronic fat lady laughs at the top of the ride.
