The manner in which Tom Hiddleston describes being directed by Steven Spielberg makes you recall just why Spielberg is one of the best in the industry. He doesn’t miss much of anything and he plans, plans, and then plans some more in order to get the film that he sees in his head onto the screen. It likely won’t all go to plan since few things ever really do, but if his films are even halfway as accurate as he wants them to be then they’re usually Oscar-worthy material. Spielberg doesn’t tend to deliver bad films to the box office that often and even if his films get mixed reviews they don’t tend to go unnoticed by the masses that look up to and respect the man.
There have been actors that have had differences of opinion with Spielberg of course, it’s bound to happen at least a few times in life. Such disputes happen for a large variety of reasons, with one of the most common being labeled as ‘creative differences’. In other words the actors want to do one thing while Spielberg wants them to stick to his idea. Egos are known to clash on movie sets without any exception, but it would seem that Tom Hiddleston, who is labeled a generally nice guy, isn’t one of those actors that like to cause trouble. He might have done his fair share of hemming and hawing now and again but when he describes his time with Spielberg it’s pretty obvious that he has a lot of respect for the man.
Do they like each other? That’s not really known, but respect isn’t about liking anyone. It’s about being able to admit that someone is at the top of their game and is, and has been, one of the best in the business for a long time. There’s a reason why Spielberg has been at the top of a lot of peoples’ list for so long, and it’s because he has a unique vision that allows him to see every little piece of the puzzle that he’s trying to put together. His ideas are so intricately woven that a person sometimes needs more than one viewing of his films just to piece everything together and understand the true scope of what he’s attempting to accomplish.
Tom Hiddleston is a great actor in his own right and is still improving as he continues to hone and refine his skill through each movie he stars in. The fact that he recognizes this truth about Spielberg is a testament to his dedication to what he does and how he interacts with people on a much more personal level. While some people might be a bit confused as to why Spielberg would direct them in one way or another Hiddleston sounds willing to listen and pay close attention to the direction he’s being given so as to make the part he plays that much more genuine.
It says a lot about a director when the actors will gladly speak favorably on their behalf.
