Summer, the time for major blockbusters to hit the silver screens as students are let out of school. Aside from the action flicks and romantic features, there are three movies that I want to see: Finding Dory, Alice Through the Looking Glass and Ice Age: Collision Course. Why would I want to pay for tickets and go to the theater to see these movies when there are other ways to see them without paying a cent? Well, let me explain it to you.
I want to see Finding Dory because first off, I didn’t think that Pixar would make a sequel to Finding Nemo after thirteen years. The animation studio was, in my mind, pretty adamant about making a sequel to the 2003 animated feature. That is, until Dory herself, Ellen DeGeneres started to push for a sequel on her daytime talk show to the point where the animation studio, again in my mind, had no choice but to give in to her “demands” and yadda, yadda, yadda; we have ourselves a sequel. Second, I want to meet the sea monkey that Dory mentioned in the first film who owed her money. It may have been sleep talk on Dory’s part, but you never know with those excellent Pixar animators.
In the case of Alice Through the Looking Glass, which comes out in theaters today, I want to find out what happens next in Alice’s story. I have read the first book and seen the first movie (both the Disney version and the live action Tim Burton version) so it would be a curiosity-satisfying endeavour with this second installment. If I ever get around to it, perhaps I will read the second book as well. No spoilers please! Oh, it would also be nice to meet the Hatter’s family if there is a flashback scene depicting his childhood.
Lastly, I want to see the fifth Ice Age movie only because I loved the first four movies, and I want to see what other adventures Manny, Diego, and Sid will go on in the upcoming film. Maybe Sid will finally be able to find a female sloth who can stand him. Everyone deserves to be loved, right?
