The Top Five Moments In The Final Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Trailer

In 2020, Sonic the Hedgehog was one of the biggest surprises of that year as it was actually a good video game adaptation. The first film grossed $319 million worldwide so naturally, a sequel was on its way. This time, Tails and Knuckles join the adventure, but Sonic must deal with Dr. Robotnik and his dangerous new ally. Both are searching for an emerald that has the power to destroy the world, and it’s up to the blue hedgehog and his band of heroes to stop them before the emerald falls into the wrong hands. Here are the top five moments of the final Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer.

Sonic and Tails Enter Hawaii Through The Ring Portal

Immediately, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 reminds fans why they fell in love with the first film. The movie manages to capture the spirit and world of the video games, and that’s strongly evident here through the opening trailer sequence. The humor remains on full display, with Thomas interrupting a beautiful wedding in Hawaii; Sonic and Tails need to be bailed out of the mess they’ve got themselves into in the snowy mountains, and the visuals and special effects are top-notch here. This moment manages to interweave humor and action effortlessly, and it’s already showing its robust budget over the first film. Sonic 2 is swinging out the gate pretty hard and it’s shaping up to be the perfect popcorn blockbuster.

Dr. Ivo Robotnik Destroys A Plane and Lifts A Train

It was a blast to see Jim Carrey in top-form in Sonic the Hedgehog and the sequel gives the comedian an opportunity to be even wilder and crazier than before. This brilliant, yet unstable narcissist may have failed to capture Sonic previously, but he’s back and more powerful than ever. Now dawning the signature bald head and mustache, Dr. Robotnik has some cool new abilities that allow him to destroy a helicopter with ease and lift up a train as if it was a feather. With the stakes raised, the journey of Sonic should be more compelling than the first installment. The first film was fun, but it was a fairly simple movie with low stakes. Now that Dr. Robotnik is on an equal level of Sonic, it creates an air of unpredictability regarding the outcome between the two popular video game characters. Once again, the special effects are at high form in the sequel and it should be a blast to watch the latest entry that resembles closer to the classic video game that inspired it.

Thomas Tells Sonic That They’ll Stick Together

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 clearly has plenty of action and humor, but thankfully, Jeff Fowler seemingly didn’t forget the heart and characters that makes the video game franchise so memorable. We as an audience were able to bond with both Sonic and Thomas in the first film, so it’s nice that there’s seems to be a good mix of character development. Based on this scene, this could mean that they’re facing certain doom. Could Sonic actually die? Could Thomas die? These type of heart to heart moments usually signal the end of a character, so it should be interesting to find out what happens to them. No matter how cool the action is, the story is key first and foremost, and the sequel does appear to balance out both elements nicely.

Sonic and Knuckles Collide

While it’s disappointing that the trailer doesn’t really show off Tails that highlights his personality, they seemingly do Knuckles justice; Idris Elba being the voice of the video game character adds a layer of gravitas that helps boost Knuckles credibility as a villain. There’s no telling on whether Knuckles ends up switching sides and teaming with Sonic later on, but his personality is seemingly nailed down from the video games and television series. He’s a serious, short-tempered, and headstrong character who has super strength and his signature two spike-like knuckles on each hand. Knuckles is pretty much the star in the trailer, from his fun entrance to his awesome battles with Sonic. This is where the special effects truly shine, watching these overpowered porcupines tear each other apart should be a fun thrill ride. Hopefully this isn’t a sign that Tails gets the short end of the stick, though given his lack of screentime in the trailer, it certainly doesn’t look that good for Sonic’s sidekick.

Knuckles Incredibly Fast Punches

Again, the battles between Sonic and Knuckles seem exciting, but this scene helps differentiate the personalities between the two characters. Sonic’s snarky and often cocky attitude nicely balances out with Knuckles serious demeanor, who tends have a some dry humor every now and then. Seeing the multitude of lighting speed punches feels straight out of the video games, which is also another huge plus. Despite having an abundance of product placement in the first film, Sonic the Hedgehog does a great job of not letting the video game callbacks overshadow the story. Hopefully, that remains true in the sequel.Knuckles
