10 Things You Didn’t Know About VH1s “The Oval”

The oval

There is a new television series out and it’s the second new release this season by famed creator Tyler Perry. VH1’s “The Oval” has just made its premiere airing on October 23, 2019. If you’re looking for a new soap opera, then this might be right up your alley. In case you missed the first episode of the new drama, here are 10 things that you didn’t know about “The Oval” that might help you to decide if it’s your cup of tea.

1. “The Oval” is about a family at the White House

The new series falls under the category of soap opera so you can expect to see plenty of drama unfolding. It’s the story about a family who has been placed in the White House by those who are in power, and the series follows their everyday lives, along with the staff who are in charge of the internal operations within the White House.

2. There is an exciting cast of characters

You’ll get to meet the Franklin family. Ed Quinn takes the lead as Hunter Frankline, Kron Moore plays the part of Victoria Franklin, Paige Hurd is Gail Franklin, and Daniel Croix Henderson is Jason Franklin. Other members of the cast include Javon Johnson, Ptosha Storey, Vaught W. Hebron, Teesha Renee, Lodric Collings, Ciera Payton, Taja V. Simpson, Walter Fauntleroy, Brad Benedict, Travis Cure, and Matthew Law.

3. It’s a must-see for Tyler Perry fans

Anyone who appreciates Tyler Perry’s work will be thrilled with “The Oval.” Tyler Perry is the genius behind the show. As the creator, he has written, directed and produced the series so it’s likely to be as successful, or even better than his previous works. He’s the master of television serial entertainment and Perry has really been churning them out lately. His creative juices have been kicked into overdrive.

4. “The Oval” is going to be dramatic

The Franklins have the appearance of the perfect and most proper family on the outside, however; the series gives us a look at their personal lives and it’s going to be the opposite. It’s a bona fide soap opera complete with lies, cheating, scandal, and mayhem behind closed doors. We’re also promised a healthy dose of corruption, and we’re going to get an up-close and personal look at what goes on in private.

5. It’s about a newly elected President of the United States

Hunter Franklin is the newly elected President of the United States. He and his family will have some serious adjustments to make. Sometimes being in the public eye can bring out the worst in people when the doors are shut.

6. The daughter will play a big role in the show

Gayle Franklin is the daughter of the President and the First Lady. Although she is beautiful, she is very spoiled. She has a strong rebellious streak and to top that, she is also defiant and set on breaking the rules. This will create a lot of the drama that we’ll see, and it will also appeal to a younger audience.

7. The son will also present a storyline

In “The Oval,” Jason Franklin is the son of the President and the First Lady. We’ve been told that he is a troubled young man. This will create yet more directions for the writer to take the script as the series progresses. Neither of the President’s children is what you could call upstanding young people as each has some serious issues going on. It will be interesting to see how this plays out as the series progresses.

8. Perry had dedicated a great deal of time to “The Oval”

In an interview, Tyler Perry admitted that creating “The Oval” has taken a lot of hard work on his part. The entire story was his idea and even though he’s had so many other projects going at the same time, he’s put a great deal of effort into the crafting of the story. It has all of the earmarks of being a complicated tale with multiple side-stories running at the same time.

9. “The Oval” is going to be around for a long time

We just learned that “The Oval” is scheduled for a lot of episodes already. Tyler Perry signed a deal with Viacom that includes several years of content. In addition, “The Oval” was greenlighted under this contract for 25 episodes. While this is encouraging for those who love the new series and are looking forward to more episodes, there is a lot riding on the ratings that it receives from viewers and critics. Countless series have been canceled through the years because of poor ratings and low viewership. So far, “The Oval” is off to such an amazing start with just its first episode that we believe it’s a series that is going to be around for a very long time.

10. The ratings for the premiere episode were high

We’ve learned that the premiere of “The Oval” was viewed by over a million viewers on BET TV at 9:00 PM on October 23, 2919. This was more than the next closest new series “American Soul” which brought in 864K viewers, followed by “Boomerang” with 587K. “The Oval” received a rating of .496 from adults aged 18-49. When all was said and done, with the encores on BET, VH1, and BET Her, more than 1.5 million viewers saw the show. This is phenomenal, and the ratings looked good for Oval with its airing over three of Viacom’s networks. These are ten things that give you an idea of what to expect from “The Oval.” Its received good reviews and the viewership is the highest of the new series, showing that it was a highly anticipated event.Tyler Perry
