‘The Lost Boys’ Cast: Where Are They Now?

The 1987 horror-comedy The Lost Boys, directed by Joel Schumacher, tells the story of two brothers, Sam and Michael Emerson, who move to Santa Carla, California with their mother Lucy. While exploring their new surroundings, they stumble upon a group of charismatic and mysterious teenagers who seem to be involved in some kind of cult-like activity. As Sam becomes increasingly fascinated with the group, led by the enigmatic David (Kiefer Sutherland), he begins to uncover their dark secret: they are vampires.

The film’s blend of campy humor, clever dialogue, and over-the-top violence has continued to grow in cult status over the decades, making it a beloved classic among horror fans. The movie also marked a pivotal moment in the careers of its young cast, who went on to enjoy significant success in Hollywood, with many becoming horror icons in their own right. So, let’s catch up with the stars of The Lost Boys and see where they are now.

Jason Patric as Michael

Jason Patric in The Lost Boys (1987)

Jason Patric was born on June 17, 1966, in Queens, New York. He began his acting career in the early 1980s, landing small roles in films and television shows. However, it was his starring role as Michael in The Lost Boys that brought him widespread recognition and fame. His performance as a vampire hunter who finds himself bitten helped establish him as a rising star in Hollywood. Following The Lost Boys, Patric went on to appear in a string of critically acclaimed films, including Sleepers,  Narc and In The Valley of Elah. He also landed a role in the anticipated sequel to the hit film Speed, Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997), although the film received mixed reviews.

Throughout his career, Patric has consistently demonstrated his versatility as an actor, taking on a wide range of roles in films and television shows, from drama to horror to comedy. Despite not achieving the same level of stardom as some of his contemporaries, Patric has maintained a dedicated fan base and continues to work in the entertainment industry to this day. In 2024, he will star opposite Sylvester Stallone in Armored, and will join the cast of the highly-anticipated Terrifier 3, returning to his horror roots.

Corey Haim as Sam

Corey Haim in The Lost Boys (1987)

Corey Haim was one of the biggest young stars of the 1980s with The Lost Boys arriving at the peak of his fame following roles in movies like Silver Bullet and Lucas. In The Lost Boys, Haim starred as Sam, the younger brother of Michael, a curious and mischievous teenager who has a fascination with vampires. When he learns that his new home is littered with vampires, he teams up with the Frog brothers to take them down. This marked the beginning of a series of collaborations with Corey Feldman, with the two going on to be known as “The Two Coreys”.

In his later years, Haim’s movies started to fall under the radar. This led him to feature in a string of low-budget straight-to-VHS and DVD films. It also inspired a song called Whatever Happened to Corey Haim? by The Thrills. Haim struggled with addiction in his adult years, something that was explored in the reality series, The Two Coreys. Sadly, Corey Haim passed away on March 10, 2010. He was 38 years of age. His last onscreen role came from the the 2014 movie, The Dead Sea. However, in 2024, a long-delayed film was released called Universal Groove, which now counts as his final movie.

Kiefer Sutherland as David

Kiefer Sutherland in The Lost Boys (1987)

Kiefer Sutherland is another cast member of The Lost Boys who achieved worldwide fame and acclaim for his role. In the movie, he starred as David, the ruthless leader of the group of vampires. Following the success of the movie, he went on to star in movies like Young Guns, Flatliners, A Few Good Men, and The Vanishing. He also established himself in the realm of television with hugely popular shows like 24 and Designated Survivor. He has two Primetime Emmy wins to show for his role as Jack Bauer in 24. He is next set to star in Clint Eastwood‘s Juror #2. Sutherland is also renowned for being the son of legendary actor Donald Sutherland, who passed away on June 20, 2024.

Dianne Wiest as Lucy

Dianne Wiest as Lucy in The Lost Boys (1987)

Dianne Wiest was one of the most recognisable faces of 80s and 90s cinema, starring in classic like Edward Scissorhands, Hannah and Her Sisters, and The Birdcage. In The Lost Boys, the two-time Oscar winner stars as Lucy, the mother of Sam and Michael. At first, she just wants to settle into the new town and begin a fresh start. To that, she passes off her son’s claims of vampires controlling the town, until she herself finds herself thrust into danger. In recent years, Wiest has starred in movies like I Care a Lot, The Mule, and the acclaimed TV series, Mayor of Kingstown. Now in her late 70s, she is still taking on roles. Her next rendition will be opposite Jim Sturgess in the horror movie, Apartment 7A.

Corey Feldman as Edgar Frog

Corey Feldman in The Lost Boys (1987)

Corey Feldman shot to fame at the same time as his friend Corey Haim, with the boom of “The Two Coreys” peaking in the early 90s. In The Lost Boys, he starred as the eccentric Edgar Frog, a comic book nerd who has an obsession with vampire hunting. However, things change when he finally has the chance to go up against some real vampires, quickly realizing he is way out his depths. Feldman was perhaps the biggest form of comedic relief in the movie, and it’s easy to see why himself and Haim were cast together many times after The Lost Boys, as their chemistry was a standout part of the film.

Before The Lost Boys, Feldman had already established himself as a talented young actor in classic movies like The Goonies and Stand By Me. However, much like Haim, as Feldman entered adulthood, his roles became smaller and mostly consisted of straight-to-VHS release. He has also become renowned for his abuse claims against major figures in Hollywood, including renowned child agents and talent agents. Outside of acting, Feldman leads his own rock band simply called Corey Feldman. His last movie role came in the 2023 comedy, Sour Party. He is next set to star opposite former wrestler Bret Hart in the horror movie, Tales From the Dead Zone. He has also dropped many hints over the years that a Goonies sequel is in the works, however, this has not yet been officially announced.

Jamison Newlander as Alan Frog

Jamison Newlander starred as Alan Frog in The Lost Boys. Alan is the equally eccentric brother of Edgar, only a little less hotheaded. Out of the cast of the movie, Newlander’s career didn’t skyrocket as much compared to the others. However, he did return alongside Corey Feldman for the sequels Lost Boys: The Tribe, and Lost Boys: The Thirst. His last role came in the 2024 romcom, Mr. Manhattan.

Jami Gertz as Star

After the success of the film, she went on to star in episodes of shows like Seinfeld, ER, and Ally McBeal. She also starred in the 1996 blockbuster movie, Twister. In more recent years, her acting career has slowed down somewhat, with her last role coming from the 2022 romcom, I Want You Back. Outside of acting, she is known for her tremendous wealth, which is reported to be around $3 billion. A great deal of this massive net worth comes from being a part owner of the Atlanta Hawks.

Alex Winter as Marko

The Lost Boys Cast: Alex Winter as Marko

Alex Winter‘s supporting role in The Lost Boys is one of few words. He starred as Marko, a loyal henchman of David. Although his screen time was rather sparse, he exuded a level of menace that was enthralling. This role led to him being cast opposite Keanu Reeves in the cult classics Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. He then reprised his character of Bill in the long-awaited follow up, Bill & Ted Face the Music, in 2020. His last role came from the 2024 horror comedy, Destroy All Neighbors. He is next set to star in Chris Miller and Matt Landon‘s The Smurfs Movie in 2025. Want to catch up with the stars of another classic movie? Here’s where the cast of The Breakfast Club are now.
