Some actors get lost in the mix when it comes to movies or are there in a supportive role, but while this might have happened to Brenda Song a few times it’s easy to state that she’s anything but a pushover or a simple extra as she’s managed to shine a few times as well. Her career started out when she was still pretty young as she entered the world of modeling after being discovered in a very similar fashion to many individuals that just happen to get noticed here and there, but unlike many actors she did manage to start and finish an education while her budding career was taking off. Since that time Brenda has appeared in quite a few movies, from TV to the big screen, and she’s fairly easy to notice since she has a very quiet but dignified way about her that helps to keep her act balanced and alluring all at once.
Here are the five best movies from her career.
5. College Road Trip
Brenda does kind of get shuffled in the mix in this movie since the whole thing is about Raven-Symone’s character as she is off to Georgetown, her desired college, but unfortunately is going with her father who is extremely over-protective. A lot of people seem to go through this same bout with parents that aren’t ready to let go and are bound and determined to teach their kids what life is like when you’re so far away from your family. Ironically it’s trips like this that can either remind the kids just how much their parents care about them or will drive them further apart, at least long enough to make them appreciate their parents.
4. Secret Obsession
Obsession does strange things to people sometimes, but this seems to be rather fringe since Jennifer is at a huge disadvantage when she wakes up in a hospital after fleeing someone in the beginning of the movie. When she regains consciousness she’s told that her parents are dead, she quit her job a while back, and has become a recluse by her ‘husband’, a man she can’t remember. Upon going home with him however she eventually finds out that not only is he not her husband, but he’s been lying to her and locking her inside the house every night for his own twisted scheme. By the end things are sorted out, but there’s no happy ending to be found.
3. Changeland
Sometimes getting away from it all is the best medicine since honestly it does seem to take a person’s mind off of a lot of things just when it’s needed the most. When Brandon travels with his friend to Thailand he begins to question the life that he left behind and the reasons he has for going back, or not. The people that can be met on a soul-searching expedition such as this tend to be those that will be the most honest no matter the situation since they’re the people that a person needs to meet in that given time. No matter the experience it’s usually a nice spiritual recharge and reset that evens out one’s priorities.
2. Like Mike
This is one of those childhood feelgood movies that might seem pretty silly as an adult but at the time it was made was pretty uplifting large because Calvin and his two friends, Reg and Murph, are all orphans and are trying to find a better life for themselves. In a big way it’s almost like Angels in the Outfield on the basketball field, minus the angels. When Calvin puts on a pair of sneakers he believed belong to Michael Jordan he’s suddenly able to play like one of the pros, but once the shoes are destroyed his game goes away, and as a result he has to step down once again. Thankfully though there is a happy ending.
1. The Social Network
Every great idea starts somewhere, and the giant media platform that would one day become Facebook isn’t any different. It did start in controversy it would seem though this movie takes a lot of liberties with the content and does tend to tell more of a story than the owners and operators of the site can corroborate. All that being said though if you can remember a time before Facebook it means that you can recall a time when having friends around the world meant that you had a lot of penpals and racked up a lot of long distance phone charges. With this invention the world got a little smaller and a little more personal at the same time.
Her career has been pretty solid for a while and it would seem that she’s been getting noticed more and more in recent years. Just watching her act makes it clear that if she got the right push she could go quite a ways further.
