The Best Uses of Iron Maiden Songs in Movies or TV

Iron Maiden was formed on Christmas day in 1975 if you can believe that, and from that point on you could say that they had a few lineup changes that resulted from a variety of reasons that were shared by the band. Sometimes a person didn’t perform well enough, other times someone faked it, and then there were times when the band just couldn’t stand the antics of one or more of their members. But throughout all that time the band has still been performing and they’ve still been able to keep their fans. You might think instead of a medieval torture device when you hear the name rather than the band, but Iron Maiden has been around for a while and their music has, to some, been kind of fringe and even offensive, but to others they’ve been something that has been highly successful and a lot of fun to watch live in concert.

Here are some of their songs that have been featured in TV and movies.

5. Bad Boys (1983) – Prodigal Son

Bad Boys is a 1983 film starring Sean Penn that has nothing to do with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence but everything to do with a young man that has been in trouble with the law and subsequently gets sent to juvenile detention facility where it’s made apparent that he’s going to have to fight in order to keep from being brutalized. This only becomes more challenging when one of his sworn enemies is incarcerated as well and the buildup begins as they move closer and closer to a final showdown that a lot of their fellow inmates can see coming. One of the best scenes in this entire movie however is when Penn’s character wraps three cola cans in a pillowcase and proceeds to bash in the faces of a couple of inmates that try to corner him.

4. Beavis and Butthead – From Here to Eternity

It’s not much of a stretch to think that Beavis and Butthead would be devout followers and supporters of Iron Maiden since they’re the type that are into harder rock and are bound to love anything that allows them to headbang to their hearts content. Aside from that they likely enjoy the band’s music since it doesn’t make them think too much and it’s just easy to jam to. Out of all the music that has been featured on this show you can bet that anything like Iron Maiden is something that will never get ridiculed since Beavis and Butthead might be dimwits, but they’re loyal to music they happen to like.

3. Phenomena – Flash of the Blade

To call this a whacked-out movie would be a kindness since it’s all about a young woman that has a telepathic bond with insects that still can’t seem to find a way to use this ability to help herself or others since she’s sleepwalking for part of the movie and yet witnessing murders left and right without remembering them upon waking. The original version of the film was made in Italy, but once it reached the US it had twenty minutes cut from it and was renamed Creepers. Jennifer Connolly was the lead actress in the film and in many ways it seems like it had potential, but somehow just fell short.

2. Murder by Numbers – Number of the Beast

Justin and Richard think they’re so smart trying to pin the murder of a young woman on a man that knows nothing about it, but Cassie is just a little smarter since she has history with a man that is too much like Richard for her liking. This is a part of what leads her to think that Richard and Justin are guilty, but until she can prove it the whole thing is a lot of conjecture and gut feeling that many people don’t want to hear when it comes to convicting people. Fortunately for Cassie Richard and Justin aren’t bright enough or trustworthy enough to really go through with a double suicide when they feel the pressure coming down on them, and she ends up killing Richard and arresting Justin.

1. South Park – Phantom of the Opera

There’s just so much that can be said about this show and the various musical artists they use. Throughout its long history South Park has been the kind of program that mixes and matches songs, artists, and celebrities in a way that’s made a chaotic stew over the years that people still somehow find ways to love. That they have and have had a fanbase that’s loyal and willing to follow them pretty much anywhere is undeniable, but thinking that this whole thing started with just four young boys that were just barely interesting is hard to fathom. But hey, they came up with an idea and stuck with it.

Iron Maiden is definitely one of those bands you’re either into or you’re not.
