Ever find yourself humming a tune that you haven’t heard in a while? Has it ever been a famous theme song that came from a show you watched as a child, or recently, or just whenever? If you say no then it’s likely you don’t watch a lot of TV, or you’re lying to yourself. Those jingles don’t just leave our subconscious mind on their own. Eventually they get recycled and reused in a number of different ways. We might even put new words to the tune just to amuse ourselves. So don’t deny it, you’ve got a favorite show or jingle that you hum on occasion or at least remember fondly.
Here are just a few out of the many that people can’t ever seem to let go of completely.
5. Batman
You know what’s really crazy about this one? It’s one single word repeated over and over unless you count the nanananana’s, which most people don’t. You get to see Batman and Robin punching out the bad guys in their customary style with the big POW and BAM signs popping up here and there to denote the violence and the successful thumping of the villains. But really, it’s just one word. Take a look and you’ll be amazed how so many of us were amused by this simple little ditty.
4. The Love Boat
Now unless you were actually in love with this show, pun intended, and a lot of people were, you might have watched it because there was nothing else on. Like it or not that theme song stuck in your head and won’t leave of its own accord now as it rattles around in the back of your mind like some long-lost dingy looking for the lighthouse that is your memory to find its way back to your lips. It’s been parodied so many times that you might have heard one or two of them, and of course that just strengthens your memory that much more.
3. Rawhide
The Blues Brothers did a version of this that was actually pretty good, but it’s just a little different. The overall feel of the theme is still the same though, which is nice. You might only remember the one titular word, but that’s enough to make it stick in your memory where it refuses to leave. RAWHIDE! There, I just helped you remember it a little more.
2. Stranger Things
If you were a kid in the eighties (hand raised) then this more recent them might resonate with you since it sounds like a product of that time period. Some might say that Netflix is trying to keep to the feel of the show, which is likely, but the heavy, tonal feel of the theme song is such that it almost reminds a person of shows like Creepshow and the like. It’s eerie and it’s ominous, which is perfect for the show.
1. Cheers
Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name. And if they don’t, show up a few more times and they might. Even if you weren’t the biggest fan of the show you probably heard the theme song enough times that it stuck in your head and refused to get out. It’s understandable, this was after all one of the greatest shows on TV at one time.
So if these theme songs weren’t stuck in your head for good, chances are they are now. You’re welcome.
