Some television shows, if you watch them often enough, they can get quite predictable regarding the plot. You can practically tell what’s going to happen in the next scene as the episode progresses. This does not occur in every television show, of course, but there are some that fall into this particular category. Certain drama shows, like CSI, Criminal Minds, The Mentalist, and comedy shows, like The Big Bang Theory and Baby Daddy, come to mind.
The moment when the protagonist sees the antagonist for a brief second in shows like The Mentalist, and Criminal Minds, I start rolling my eyes, because the enemy will then pop up behind the protagonist and scare or harm the protagonist. You can also tell by the swelling of music that something’s about to happen, and it’s not going to be good.
There are moments where as I watched the episode of a certain show where I knew something is going to happen before the next scene. An example would be the episode of The Big Bang Theory where Sheldon shut off the building’s power just to get Leonard to stay with him in their apartment. I had a feeling that Sheldon was the responsible party before Penny came in and revealed the truth. Another example is the episode where Penny smashed Sheldon’s wooden box to get to his USB drive. That was both predictable and hilarious.
Certain moments, especially suspenseful moments, can be predictable as well. I was re-watching an old episode of Baby Daddy a few days ago. I knew Riley was going to get back at Danny when she found out about his one-night stand with Sam back in high school. I was watching the screen going, “It’s not high school anymore, get over it!”
I’m not bashing on the predictability of these TV shows by any means; I’m just saying that there’s always room for improvement. If the producers and directors don’t want to mess with what they got, then that’s their choice. Besides, I would get to use my “psychic” powers when I watch these shows.
