It can be incredibly difficult to reinvigorate a series after it’s been on the air for ten years, to find a way to make the show feel new and fresh again. However, Supernatural executive producers Jeremy Carver and Andrew Dabb may have come up with a pretty solid plan to make Season 11 of the long-running CW drama feel different than the more recent ones that have come before it. And how will they do this exactly? By going back to basics.
As both EPs previewed when we talked to them during roundtable interviews at San Diego Comic-Con, Season 11 of Supernatural will unite Sam and Dean together to fight against one big bad. It seems that it will no longer be about the brothers hiding secrets from each other, or one of them in peril with the other sacrificing everything to rescue him. Instead, it sounds very much like a Supernatural Season 1/Season 2 type of feel, including more opportunities for brotherly bonding moments, like the much anticipated fourth episode of the season, which will solely focus on Sam and Dean together in the Impala.
And what about this year’s big bad? Well, as Andrew Dabb in particular teases, the recently cast Amara (who we can neither confirm nor deny will be the “manifestation” of The Darkness, although these interviews certainly hint at what role she will play) will enter this world with a “very interesting point of view” and more than likely cause a “ripple effect” that will impact all of the show’s characters. So even though it seems like the focus of Season 11 will certainly be more on Sam and Dean and the brothers’ relationship, it also sounds like the Winchesters will need the help of Cas and maybe even Crowley in order to defeat The Darkness.
