Studio Ghibli Co-Founder and Anime Legend Isao Takahata Dies at 82

There are a lot of people that are dedicated fans of anime, the popular Japanese-born form of animation that is just as popular among adults as traditional animation ever was for children. In reality, anime essentially changed the way that people think about entertainment. All of this can be credited to a man named Isao Takahata. He is considered the pioneer of anime, as he almost single-handedly decided to create this form of entertainment and develop it into the popularity that it experiences today.

Unfortunately, this pioneer passed away recently. At the time, he was 82 years of age. A number of people that knew him personally have chosen to mourn his death, as well as people that consider themselves dedicated fans of anime, the very form of entertainment that he chose to develop and champion for decades. In addition to his efforts to change the way people think of Japanese entertainment, he also co-founded Studio Ghibli in 1985. As a direct result, his efforts to have a positive impact on the world of entertainment will forever be remembered.

Takahata was no stranger to television. In fact, he had been working in the entertainment industry since the 1960s, developing a number of different movies, and directing several titles that were considered noteworthy. All along, he had the idea to create movies and other forms of entertainment that were enhanced with animation, yet carried a story that was developed more for adults as opposed to being a simplistic child’s story. During his earlier years in the industry, many people were quick to offer advice that his views would never work. Fortunately, he chose to ignore the advice of these individuals and pursue his efforts as he saw fit.

Throughout his life, he continued to work hard in order to make the types of entertainment that were important to him. That was a main reason for his decision to co-found Studio Ghibli during the mid-1980s. At the time, he had been working in the television industry for approximately 25 years and was still working to develop his dreams about anime. Eventually, he became one of the most well-known directors of movies that incorporated this form of entertainment. This earned him his very first Oscar nomination at the age of 78. This moment was poignant for him, because it represented the culmination of his life’s work, not to mention decades of effort.

Although Takahata hadn’t been formally involved in a project since 2016, he is still well regarded as the individual that is responsible for creating the very format of entertainment that has become popular in movies and television. Today, anime can be found almost anywhere. People have become dedicated fans of this form of entertainment and in reality, they all have one person to thank for its very existence. If it weren’t for his vision and his perseverance, anime might not even exist. For that reason and that reason alone, people all over the world continue to mourn his death while simultaneously celebrating his life and the accomplishments that he achieved.
