Last summer actress Stana Katic (Castle) and actor Raza Jaffrey (Code Black) had a little romance – on screen, that is. (Sorry guys, they’re both happily married – and not to each other.) The two were in Jordan filming the action/adventure romance The Rendezvous. It’s directed by the Sundance award-winning director Amin Matalq (Captain Abu Raed) and the script is based on the Sarah Isaias novel, A New Song. However, this is the official movie synopsis:
A romantic adventure with an intriguing blend of modern and classic touches, THE RENDEZVOUS throws together RACHEL, a Jewish-American doctor (Stana Katic) and JAKE, an Arab-American government bureaucrat (Raza Jaffrey), who are trying to solve the mysterious death of Rachel’s treasure hunting brother. Racing around the world, they find themselves being hunted by a doomsday group calling themselves the Armageddonites who believe Rachel and Jake possess an ancient script discovered by Rachel’s brother that could bring about the end of days. Caught in the middle of a plot to hasten the end of mankind, Rachel and Jake need to solve a murder, save the world and discover for themselves that treasure is where you find it.
It sounds good, right? Well, the film’s trailer looks even better!
First of all, just on aesthetics, this film looks amazing! Being that it’s shot on location and not a back lot the beauty was there to be used, and under Matalq one really shouldn’t be surprised at the film being gorgeous. Nevertheless some of those shots are literally breath-taking, and that’s just on my computer screen. Imagine what it will be like in the theatre!
In terms of the actual movie, this looks like a fun romp! I’m thinking about great genre movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark , and classic films like Charade. (That may be because Katic is definitely channeling Audrey Hepburn in a few places.). Katic and Jaffrey have good onscreen chemistry and comic timing, so along with the adventure and romance there will definitely be some of that screwball comedy going on. (That “sand” joke at the end made me giggle!)
Did you see that Darby Stanchfield from ABC’s Scandal is in there as well. She’s listed in the IMDB credits as Ruthie, who in the book is Rachel’s sister. If you watch Scandal, you know how Stanchfield can bring both the drama and the laughs! It won’t be the first time she’s worked with Katic either. In the earlier seasons of Castle she guest-starred as Castle’s ex-wife Meredith!
There’s no release day for The Rendezvous yet, but it certainly looks like it’ll be out sooner rather than later! Maybe later in the summer? That would be great, because it certainly has that summer fun vibe!
