It might not seem like there’s a lot of information on Sonoya Mizuno largely because there isn’t in comparison to other actors. But if you’re going to compare her to other actors then that might be the problem since she hasn’t been around nearly as long as some. That’s not to say that she’s not as good, but her level of exposure is still growing with the years and experiences as they roll by. Sonoya isn’t a nobody by any means but her fan base is still being gathered together and as far as her level of fame goes you might call her a middling star that has yet to really bust out into a major role all on her own. She’s getting there without a doubt since she’s been able to act alongside some of the best in the business, but acting as a lead or a major supporting character is something that seems to have eluded her up until this point.
It will happen no doubt, but until then here are some things you might not have known about her.
10. She used to be a ballet dancer.
There’s a reason why she’s so graceful when she’s on screen and a part of it, a big part in fact, is because she’s been a ballet dancer for a good part of her life. That kind of thing doesn’t just go away when you exit stage right, it tends to stay with you.
9. She was in Ex Machina.
This was kind of an odd film but it was also eye-opening in the sense of what humanity is doing with AI and what our imaginations can come up with in terms of reality, morality, and the ethical principles behind making something in our own image. Of course the dangers are there as well, but it seems to be more entertaining to watch people throwing caution to the wind.
8. She’s done some modeling during her career.
This doesn’t seem too surprising as she has the look and the build for it and has no doubt been quite successful when she wanted to be. Given that she was a ballet dancer for so long her balance and poise must be off the charts, meaning that she can hold a pose if she needs to and can strike the right poses that some photographers seem to like.
7. She was in Annihilation.
This was another visually mesmerizing movie that didn’t get a lot of positive attention but is still worth watching since it brings up the implications of what might happen if something did come to earth the intent of changing things so drastically that it would difficult if not impossible to tel what was real and what was not.
6. She’s in the movie Crazy Rich Asians.
It was hard to find a clip of her as the movie is still pretty new and clips aren’t being circulated as much quite yet but she is in there along with a very star-studded cast that some people feel is not quite complete and others feel is a bit whitewashed thanks to a couple of characters.
5. She has a modest following on social media.
Her number of followers is still in the tens of thousands but is climbing steadily since she’s one of the up and coming actresses of the decade that should hopefully be seeing a surge in her popularity eventually.
4. Her career started in 2012.
This could be a big reason why she’s not so well known as of yet since she’s been around for less than a decade. But to be honest she’s been featured in a few smaller roles in some big movies so there’s a chance that her roles are going to start getting bigger with the effort she continues to put in.
3. So far her list of credits is kind of impressive.
For only having been in the industry for six years she’s stayed pretty busy thus far and it’s easy to see that she doesn’t want to sit still and wait for her time to come. From her resume it looks like she’s out there hustling for roles, which is what she needs to do.
2. She’s been in a music video.
It’s enough to recognize her in this video but it’s even greater to watch to the end since the grace and fluidity of her motions are quite beautiful and impressive to watch. Her time spent in the ballet obviously stuck with her since she moves so effortlessly.
1. She had a small part in Beauty and the Beast.
Her part is pretty small since she plays one of the many debutantes that the prince has in his castle at the beginning of the movie. Picking her out would be possible if you watched frame by frame, but otherwise you kind of have to take the word of those that made the movie that she’s there.
