Sometimes when you’re sitting around watching television there are shows that you kind of long to watch. It’s the reason we tune in to TV Land or Nick at Night to watch some our favorite shows from the past. I personally record shows like Growing Pains, Who’s the Boss, and The Wonder Years when they make their annual runs. Perhaps it’s a reminder of my youth, or perhaps it’s just for nostalgia. Speaking of which the network “Antenna” airs Small Wonder on the weekends. I had no idea of this and I think I owe it to myself to watch at least one episode.
For those that don’t remember Small Wonder, it was a cheesy 80s show that chronicled the family of a robotics engineer who secretly creates a robot modeled after a human girl, then tries to pass it off as their adopted daughter. Along the way you can see the ridiculous antics of V.I.C.I an acronym for Voice Input Child Identicant, pronounced “Vicky” who is an android in the form of a 10 year old girl. There are tons of moments where she has to try to be “human” and plenty of follies along the way.
When you actually think about it, this show was way ahead of its time. Very similar to the movie D.A.R.Y.L, another classic from the 80s. In case you don’t remember the show or haven’t seen it, here’s a clip. Such a cheesy song! Such a cheesy show! Love it. How was this show even real? “She fantastic, made of plastic.” Yes, those are real lyrics to the theme song.
