Sleepy Hollow: New City, New People, Same Old Ichabod.

Sleepy Hollow

“The past is important. It gives us context.” I couldn’t agree more, Ichabod. This fourth season of Sleepy Hollow is going to be an intriguing one, I’m sure. On the other hand, it was a bit on the dull side as Ichabod finds himself in Washington, D.C. Also, happy to see you again, Captain Crane!

The hour opens with Ichabod interrogated by the man who took him at the end of the season three finale. The interrogation took place in an undisclosed location. Ichabod tells the man that he and Abbie (or Leftenant, as he called her) joined forces to fight evil demons and horsemen of the Apocolypse. When asked to elaborate, Ichabod only said, “You know, evil.” Nice save, Crane.

It was later revealed that Ichabod was held against his will for two weeks. That and a man named Malcolm Dreyfuss (Jeremy Davies, who played paparazzi Nick Hoffman on season one of Lucifer) is responsible for his imprisonment and tonight’s monster of the hour. Oh, did I mention that the infamous statue of President Lincoln is missing its head? Yeah, Dreyfuss is responsible for that too. It appears that he has something sinister planned. As for what, no one knows.

The newly formed demon hunting team managed to bring down the monster (who turns out to be John Wilkes Booth) by using a gun that shoots copper bullets. The part where Ichabod started waving the American flag while belting out The Battle Hymn of the Republic made me facepalm. Perhaps you should consider letting the other Tom (as in Tom Ellis) give you singing lessons, hmm, Ichabod?

Overall, the episode was okay to an extent. It didn’t blow my mind regarding storyline, but it was intriguing. For instance, why is Agent Thomas(Janina Gavankar from True Blood)’s daughter Molly’s sketchbook filled with drawings of Ichabod? Is the little girl somehow an incarnation of Abbie? If that’s the case, why partner Agent Thomas with Ichabod? If not, then is the girl a pawn in Dreyfuss’s evil game? This episode also had some hilarious moments courtesy of Ichabod. I laughed out loud at his pronunciation of Superman during the kryptonite discussion between him and Jake. That and the part where Ichabod started blabbing about his past as he read the book he pulled from the shelf in the library.
