As the song goes, “War, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing!”. Though in Malcolm’s case, it means everything. In tonight’s episode of Sleepy Hollow, we get a glimpse of the future that Malcolm Dreyfuss wanted if it all went according to plan. A word of warning, it’s not going to be pretty.
The backstory of future Molly’s journey back in time was insightful. When Molly attacked Jenny and her army of Freedom Fighters, I thought that she had gone to the dark side permanently. Despite the fact that Malcolm put lies into her mind, Ichabod (albeit a much older one) made her see the truth. See, Molly? You should never have trusted Malcolm in the first place. He lied to you about your mother’s supposed death when in reality, she became the Horseman of War.
Speaking of the Horseman of War, I knew that there was something fishy about Henry Parrish! He didn’t get reborn to side with Team Witness with his whole good son act. He double-crossed them and sided with Malcolm so that he can become War once again. I agreed with Jenny when she said that she can’t bring herself to trust him just yet. On the other hand, it’s nice to see John Noble again. Hope he can stick around for a while now that his character is brought back.
The part where future Molly used a separation spell to go into Ichabod’s subconscious to rescue him brings back memories of how Ichabod saved Abbie from going nuts in that temple place back in season three. The twist this time around is that War wants to take over Ichabod’s psyche so that his spirit can bond with Ichabod’s. On a side note, I liked the whole chrysalis thing where it represents the primal emotions: anger, disgust, and fear. The locale of Ichabod’s psyche, however, could be a little better. I mean, come on! A prison cell? You could’ve given him his old cabin in the woods back at Sleepy Hollow or something.
In the end, Ichabod’s soul is saved, and he helped Team Witness defeat the zombie Hessians. Way to use the Horseman of War’s powers for good, Ichabod Crane! Though there’s one thing that I’m rather curious about. Since Agent Thomas won’t become the Horseman of War, then future Molly won’t exist because present Molly will still have a mother to care for her. Does this mean that we won’t see future Molly again or will she adopt this Lara persona and help out Team Witness? The next episode will be the season finale. Will it be the last we see of Team Witness? Only time will tell.
