For a guy whose been bashing Saturday Night Live ever since the show started railing on him each week, President Donald Trump seems to take an awful lot of material from the show. As Seth Meyers wished everyone a happy “National Puppy Day” yesterday, the subject quickly moved to a bone Meyers had to pick with Trump. Given Seth Meyers’ past role on Saturday Night Live, particularly being a Weekend Update anchor, Meyers was surprised to see that the same President who constantly complains about SNL might actually be taking specific lines from the show and passing them off as his own. Here’s what Meyers had to say:
“President Trump responded to questions about unsubstantiated claims he recently made by saying quote, ‘I can’t be doing so badly because I’m president and you’re not,’” Meyers reiterated. “‘I’m president and you’re not’? OK, I didn’t mind when you talked dirty with Billy Bush or asked Russia to hack Hillary’s emails, but when you start stealing bits from Weekend Update anchors, it is on.”
Meyers than proceeded to call our President an “ignorant slut.” And as it turns out it’s not just Chevy Chase Trump was stealing from either. Guess who actually coined the term “fake news?” It was none other than Norm Macdonald when he was doing weekend update on SNL.
