I’ve always been a huge fan of Scott Pelley. He was always my favorite member of 60 minutes and continues to be to this day. Pelley has an excellent voice for narration as well as solid ability to interview. However, it was always hard to picture him as an anchor for a news show. And that’s why it came as no surprise to learn that CBS news is pulling the plug on the Scott Pelley as anchor project. According to CNN
Pelley will return to CBS’ “60 Minutes” full time, a source familiar with the matter said. The departure, first reported by Page Six, had been in the works for some time, the sources said, and was due in part to the fact that Pelley was struggling to generate ratings. A CBS News spokesperson declined to comment. The network is expected to make a formal announcement on Wednesday. Pelley is currently on assignment for “60 Minutes” and had not hosted “Evening News” for several days. Sources said Pelley personally asked to have his office cleared out on Tuesday even though he was out of town.
Again, I love Pelley but there are some people who are meant for particular roles be it in the movies or in television. I think that Pelley could be the next Charlie Rose type if he plays his cards right. That’s certainly not a bad goal to have. If Pelley’s going to stand alone on camera it should be for his own interview show. That I think could play out extremely well. That’s just my two cents. Thanks.
