No punchline necessary to that classic joke setup when this week’s Saturday Night Live host Russell Crowe is joined by Leslie Jones for the latest round of commercial promos. A visit to the bar would be a waste without playing a new drinking game over a dozen or so shots at the ready for whenever anyone says “SNL”.
The Academy-Award winner is a first time host this weekend along with first time musical guest, Margo Price.
Crowe’s next film, The Nice Guys, hits theaters in May in which he stars alongside Ryan Gosling. Gosling himself hosted SNL in December delivering arguably the best episode of the season thus far so Crowe has big shoes to fill. As mentioned in the promo clip posted above, Crowe isn’t typically known for his comedy chops but often it is the dramatic actors and actresses that have the most surprising turns on SNL. After all, there’s a super talented cast ready to back up the host and really make them look good.
Considered one of the raunchiest cast members, Leslie Jones is never one to hold back (or censor) a thought. And when it comes to men, she’s especially raring to go. Just last week she appeared in one of the funniest sketches from Peter Dinklage’s hosting debut, Naked and Afraid Celebrity edition. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch for yourself here:
I can’t go without mentioning Jones’ not-so-secret crush on one half of the Weekend Update team, Colin Jost. Every so often she’ll visit the desk and spew another handful of nicknames at Jost, her “delicious marshmallow”, “sexy vanilla muffin”. Truly their relationship is the basis for a modern fairytale following in the steps of previous Update host Seth Meyers and his recurring guest, Stefon (Bill Hader). Not that I’m in a rush to see Jost leave Update, but his and Leslie’s wedding will be one for the ages.
Be sure to catch Russell Crowe on SNL on NBC this Saturday!
