For people who are unfamiliar with the name, Riverdale is as its name suggests, a teen drama on The CW based on the characters from Archie Comics. However, it is much darker in tone than what most people would have expected based on their recollections of its source material, though it is far from being unprecedented considering the sheer range of Archie Comics stories out there. Regardless, while Season 1 of Riverdale revealed the answer to its central mystery of who killed Jason Blossom, it left the viewers on a cliff-hanger when Archie’s dad was shot in what looked like a robbery gone wrong at Pop’s Chock’lite Shoppe. As a result, it seems probable that Riverdale will be more than capable of maintaining its sense of tension once Season 2 starts broadcasting on October 11 of 2017.
Here are some of the things that we can expect from Season 2 of Riverdale:
The Fate of Fred Will Be Revealed in the First Episode
Based on the trailer, we know that Archie has brought his father to the hospital to be treated for his gunshot wound. At this point, we don’t know whether Fred will make it or not, but considering that the first episode is named “A Kiss Before Dying,” his prospects are looking grim. Regardless, it has been stated that the viewers will find out his fate by the end of the first episode, meaning that it seems probable that whatever it is, it will kick off a major storyline of Season 2.
Darker Characters
A lot of characters will be turning darker over the course of Season 2. For example, the actor for Archie has stated that his character will be seeking vengeance for the shooting of his father, which is another piece of evidence supporting the idea that Fred might not make it with his gunshot wound. Furthermore, Veronica will reveal more of her dark side as characters from her past are introduced, while Cheryl will be taking control of her situation, as shown by how the trailer revealed that her mother has been burned in spite of the fact that she made it out of the house.
Some Relationships Will Be Tested, Others Not So Much
Jughead is going to be moving to the south side of Riverdale. As a result, his relationship with Archie is going to be tested, as will be his relationship with Betty because of new characters in his life such as Toni Topaz. With that said, it is heartening to know that Betty and Veronica’s relationship will be as solid in Season 2 as it was in Season 1, though that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be without its complications.
More Information about Families
Speaking of which, a number of characters will be seeing their families receive more screen-time. For example, Jughead’s family will be having a more important role in Season 2, not least because a lot of fans are interested in his mother as well as his younger sister. Likewise, Hiram Lodge will be coming to Riverdale, meaning that interested individuals can expect to learn more about the relationships within the Lodge family as well.
Townwide Tensions
It has been said that the tensions between the north and south sides of Riverdale will reach a crisis point. Something that promises to bring a lot of complications for Jughead, who has a foot in both camps so to speak. In a sense, the rising tensions will be a reflection of the characters as well as a cause of whatever happens between them, meaning that they are bound to be interesting.
