Reid Ewing is a unique individual who is capable of many different talents. Most people probably know him best for his role in Modern Family but you might also recognize him from a commercial he did a few years ago for Wendy’s restaurants. He’s become quite popular over the years and that makes people want to know more about him. Below are 10 things that you might not already be aware of.
1. He was born in Florida
He was born and raised in Florida and he still has a very strong love for his home state. He does his best to get back there whenever possible and although he doesn’t live there at the time, he says that he will always have fond memories of the state and everything that he had an opportunity to experience during his childhood.
2. He’s been active in his chosen profession for about 10 years now
He’s only been acting for about 10 years, getting his start in 2008. Of course, he did some uncredited roles and smaller acting parts in different arenas before that. That being said, he’s developed a real fan following in the mere 10 years that he’s been doing this professionally and there’s no indication that his popularity is waning. If anything, he’s only growing increasingly popular with his existing fan base and he’s gaining new fans each and every day.
3. He got his initial acting experience on the stage
He actually developed a love for acting when he was in high school and he started performing in stage plays. From there, he started becoming active in stage productions that were based in Florida and he did several of them while he was in college.
4. He also studied acting
After he had done just a few stage productions, he knew that this was what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. He studied acting at college in Florida and then eventually moved to New York so he could study on an even deeper level. Although he now does television, he says that his first love will always be acting on stage because he loves the fact that fans see everything as it’s actually happening.
5. Eventually, he made the move it so many other actors decide to make
Even though he loves acting on stage, his ultimate goal was to become an actor in Hollywood. Therefore, when he completed his studies in New York, he made the decision to move to Los Angeles in order to pursue those goals.
6. He’s also very musical
If you think that his talents stop at acting, think again. He plays several musical instruments, including the piano, banjo and guitar. He’s always been interested in music for years and he loves the way that the genres of music and acting can play off each other in order to create a truly dynamic and unique situation.
7. He can write songs, too
He’s also quite talented when it comes to writing and he loves to write songs. Right now, he just does it for fun but he hopes that eventually, he might be able to produce an album complete with original songs where he plays a variety of different instruments.
8. He suffers from a fairly rare disorder
Some people think that he’s always had it easy because he’s so talented. He’ll be the first to tell you that that certainly isn’t the case. As a matter of fact, he has suffered from a disorder called body dysmorphic disorder for a number of years. This is a condition where a person doesn’t see his or her body as it actually is, but instead only sees imperfections that aren’t apparent to other individuals. It is a real condition and because of it, he’s actually undergone a number of cosmetic surgeries in an attempt to fix the things that he sees wrong with himself.
9. He’s also dealt with issues regarding his sexuality
As he was dealing with his disorder, he also started to realize that he was having issues with his sexuality. Eventually, all of it forced him to more closely examine himself and he decided to come out as a gay man a few years ago.
10. He wants to use his experiences to help others
Over the years, he’s done a lot of struggling with his own image of himself. He chose to make everything public so that he could use his own experiences to help others who just might be struggling with something similar.
