The Real Housewives of Atlanta 3.12 “Not So Fine Print” Review

So Phaedra went for the throat tonight on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, but Kim was not the dumb blonde Phaedra presumed her to be.

While Cynthia was prepping her “dinosaur wedding” (you have to love that woman) and Sheree was off buying her eldest daughter $7400 worth of furniture, Phaedra was plotting up coming at Kim the first chance she got for talking about Apollo and her unborn baby. Kandi arrived at Phaedra’s house to check up on her, and Phaedra couldn’t let Dwight’s inaccurate gossip lay to rest. Is it just me or was Phaedra a little too rough on her verbal beatdown on Kim in that scene, especially with Phaedra being a “Christian, southern belle” and all. Phaedra did have some good zingers, namely the whole ‘my baby doesn’t need a wig’ bit, but it didn’t help her case to come at Kim the way she did. However, practice didn’t make perfect when Phaedra finally faced Kim. Despite thinking she won the battle by being a “crazy black woman,” logic dictated smack in that debate and Phaedra clearly lost. Let’s list how Kim pretty much ran circles around Phaedra’s “crazy black woman” comeback:

  • 1) Kim is a certified nurse, no matter what Phaedra’s snobbery might suggest. Therefore, when Phaedra lied about her pregnancy, she didn’t think that someone like Kim would be the one to expose her and stay on her about it, which leads me to the next point.
  • 2) Phaedra was surrounded by five women who all have been through the pregnancy process before, some more than once. So as Kim was explaining how crazy (and illogical) Phaedra’s story sounded, she had backup in the form of those women to support her facts and Phaedra didn’t.
  • 3) In retrospect, Kim did back down because Phaedra was a “crazy black woman,” but not in the manner of which Phaedra deluded herself into believing.

While Kim came out on top during that battle, she pretty much lost the other two bouts with viewers by not even trying during rehearsal for Kandi’s tour and later with the whole ‘friend contract’ with Cynthia. At the rehearsal, Kim seemed as if she didn’t try to practice at all on her own time, which cuts into Kandi’s time, making our resident hitmaker none too thrilled to be messing with Kim’s tomfoolery. This is where I suggest Kandi replaces Kim with Lawrence as her opening act. At least he’ll work for it.

As for crossing Cynthia, Kim mentioned the friend contract and how she thought it was highly weird. Cynthia, who had voiced her disappointment in NeNe for showing that contract to Kim early in the episode, pointedly said that a) she was not being serious about the contract and b) the contract was not for Kim to see. Kim took the defensive, but Cynthia pretty much finished the conversation for all of them, which I think will either resume a bit later or at the reunion show.

Slipping over to Watch What Happens Live!, Phaedra and Apollo appeared on there as Andy Cohen’s guests for the evening. After all of the talk from the other housewives about Phaedra not really being that clueless, I was eager to see this for myself, especially on live TV. Did we see a different Phaedra? Not really. However, it wouldn’t be too far of a fetch to think Phaedra is playing dumb for the cameras, but even if she wasn’t, it’s like she has to work super hard to regain some sort of respect with the viewing public. If she comes back next year, then I seriously think that will be her time to shine.

So what are your thoughts about Kim vs. Phaedra? Who did you think came out on top?
