Now that Ron Howard has taken over the filming of the solo Han Solo movie it’s only fitting that people are trying to dig up any kind of information that links him to the Star Wars films. Five days ago perhaps the best link of them all is a letter that Ron Howard wrote back in 1999 which defends Jake Lloyd and The Phantom Menace. As you know, to this day The Phantom Menace is widely regarded as the worst Star Wars film of all time and largely because the involvement of two characters: a young Anakin Skywalker played by Jake Lloyd and Jar Jar Binks.
Despite everyone poo pooing the film, it’s still solid (I don’t care what anyone thinks). There are no bad Star Wars movies. This one just happens to be not as good as the others. But Ron Howard had a lot more to say about it. How this is going to play into his plans for the upcoming production is anyone’s guess but I wouldn’t been surprised if we see a return from Jar Jar in the new film. Anyway, here’s the letter he wrote:
