Ranking The Top Five “Friends” Thanksgiving Episodes of All-Time

‘Friends’ was an amazingly popular sitcom series that ran for ten seasons from September 1994 to May 2004. It had an ensemble cast including Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green, Courtney Cox as Monica Geller, Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe Buffay, David Schwimmer as Ross Geller, Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing, and Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani. There are many memorable episodes from this sitcom and each fan has their own favorite. Each year the series would feature an episode related to Thanksgiving that would correspond with the event in the United States. Here are the five best Thanksgiving episodes in ‘Friends’.

1. The One Where Ross Got High

This episode is fantastic as not only does it show the chemistry between the group, it also highlights all their hilarious faults and weaknesses. The basis for the storyline is lies that they have told over the years that they are continuing to hide from Ross and Monica’s parents. Monica is hiding the fact that she is in a relationship and Ross is denying that he used to smoke weed. One of the best parts of this episode, however, is Rachel trying to prove she can cook by making a trifle. Unfortunately, the pages of the cookbook are stuck together and she combines the ingredients of a trifle with a shepherd’s pie.

2. The One with All the Thanksgivings

In this episode, the group reminisce about Thanksgivings form their past. In the flashbacks, it shows the group during their youth when they were at a very different stage in their life. It features Monica when she was overweight, Rachel before she had a nose job and the hilarious hairstyles of Ross and Chandler when they were young and trying to be cool. One of the funniest moments of the episode is Monica getting a turkey stuck on her head and Chandler declaring his love for her.

3. The One with the Rumor

Brad Pitt makes a cameo appearance in this episode, playing the role of Ross’ friend from high school, Will. In the episode, they reveal that they used to be in a club called the ‘I Hate Rachel Club’ and they had spread a rumor around school that she had both male and female genitals.

4. The One with the Football

At Thanksgiving, the group decides to have a game of football. However, the episode is as much about sibling rivalry and competitiveness in the group as it is about the sport. Viewers also got to see just how bad Rachel is at sports. The group is competing to win the ‘Geller Cup’ which is a tradition in Ross and Monica’s family from their childhood. The prize isn’t all it seems as the trophy is actually something they made themselves and consists of a Troll nailed to a block of wood.

5. The One with Rachel’s Other Sister

In previous seasons, fans of friends had seen Rachel’s sister Jill who was played by Reese Witherspoon. Unfortunately, she could not appear in this episode due to her busy schedule so the writers of the show decided to create another sister for Rachel, Amy. The premise of this episode is the self-centered and selfish attitude of Amy who is a spoiled princess. She also keeps calling Ross and Rachel’s daughter ‘Emily’ instead of ‘Emma’ and is planning to raise the little girl herself if anything ever happens to Rachel and Ross. Of course, Ross and Rachel are horrified at the mere thought of Amy going anywhere near Emily.
