Despite the fact that Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon starred in more than the movies listed below the ones they’re truly known for in this day and age are those that are listed below. A lot of those from the older generation could possibly bring to mind the other movies the two friends did together but these are perhaps the funniest and the most memorable of all since they pitted both men against one another in ways that were classic and unforgettable. As younger men they were at odds with one another but as older men their onscreen feuds just got bigger and even better in terms of how they treated each other and the realizations they finally came to when they discovered that for all their bickering they really needed one another.
The best fights you’ll ever have in your life are often with your best friend.
5. Out to Sea
One common thing about these two and their movies is that they’re usually bachelors and in need of women to spend their time with. In this particular movie they sign on as dance instructors for a luxury cruise in order to get out and experience life a bit. The only trouble is that they don’t really know how to dance and they’re not all that great at keeping themselves out of trouble.
4. The Odd Couple
Oscar and Felix are two of the most eligible bachelors around but they have a huge problem, and it’s that together they’re an absolute mess. Felix is like a one man cleaning crew while Oscar is the kind of guy that will let the mess get up and move on its own before he admits that he might need to do a little bit of cleaning. Together they’re a funny but incompatible duo that makes for one insanely funny movie.
3. The Odd Couple II
In their older years these two were still at it as they took up the roles of Felix and Oscar again. This time however the main premise was that their kids were getting married. Somehow, out of all the people in the world, their kids managed to find each other and bring these two guys back together in a way that would be much harder to avoid. They would eventually become in-laws.
2. Grumpier Old Men
The only reason this movie gets rated below the original is that the original was the movie that had people busting up and in stitches pretty much the whole way through when the drama didn’t need to have its moment. The things these guys do and say to each other is hilarious, but the fact that Max goes to war with the new woman in town over whether her place will be a bait shop or a restaurant is just classic. Sophia Loren was the perfect addition to this small group.
1. Grumpy Old Men
If you didn’t laugh at this movie then you might need to check your pulse. From beginning to end this film was nothing but a humongous laugh riot since the manner in which these two treat each other is everything you’d expect from rivals that are also unwitting friends.
To the putz and the moron, you guys are sorely missed but still thoroughly enjoyed.
